I LOVE the name Edward, but hate Eddie.

Anybody seen/read Twilight?
Gorgeous Robert Pattinson has convinced me it is a really nice name, only issue is 'Eddie' eurgh.

Is it just me or does 'Edward' suddenly really appeal because of the portrayal of the character?

Use Teddy or Ted as a nickname then.

I know an Edward who always get's Ed, never Eddie.

Wasn't actually going to use the name though! I just think it's a really pretty boys name. .

I was actually thinking whilst reading twilight, that I bet nine months down the line Edward is so going to be the top popular boys name isn't it?
Havent seen the film, purely from the book.

Smile - boys don't want pretty names!!

MumHadEnoughTinsel · 30/12/2008 01:40

My dh is Edward but gets called Ed or Eddie. I just CANNOT call him Edward.

However, in a baby I think it would be the opposite, Edward would be lovely but any shortened versions just strange.

Ok, maybe I'm weird!

Flihgtattendant · 30/12/2008 06:26

I'd use it as a middle name in that case, then it wouldn't get shortened but would still be there.

Wolfblass · 30/12/2008 08:07

To be honest - whatever name you choose it may get shortened or varied to other peoples tastes - including the little one and you may not like the alternative version(s) that is created

A friend of mine has Harry - who is known by friends as Hazza.

I was named Rebecca-Jayne - but my parents despised Becky so nicknamed me Becca -(and i also use Beccy and Becs)

if you love Edward go for it - just be prepared that p[eople may shorten it to Ed or Eddie - ask people not too if you really don't like it...

NomDePlume · 30/12/2008 08:14

Eddie is a pretty unusual shortening these days, I think
