Hello!

We need a name for a boy beginning with 'b'

Have looked online and in books and can't find any inspiration!

So if anyone can think of any good names, not long, i.e. 6ish letters and can be shortened, also a bit modern but not silly, then pleassssseeee list em!

Thanks

goodasgold · 28/12/2008 23:58

I like Basil and Bruno

MrsMerryHenry · 28/12/2008 23:58

When you're outside and he's going the wrong way, you could whistle and call: "Here, Boy!"

It's time I went to bed.

thumbElf · 29/12/2008 00:02

MrsMH! lovely to see you again - like your thinking!

Similar - Beau?

MrsMerryHenry · 29/12/2008 00:08

Hellooo!!!

I haven't been on hear for ages and having just heard today about the Moldies saga I was suddenly worried that you might have disappeared into their clique! So glad you're still here, thumbs!

Fraid I'm not keen on Beau - I always think of 'Geste' and then memories of bizarre Daily Mirror cartoons from the 80s come flooding back!

MrsMerryHenry · 29/12/2008 00:08

Aaaaaaaaaaaaagggggghhhhhhh!! (and to think I once taught English)

That should be 'here'

thumbwitch · 29/12/2008 00:11

yes I think of Beau Geste, Beau Brummell and Beau Bridges - although I do know that Beau Brummell's real name was George, Beau was more of an epithet (do I have the right word there?)

That's funny, I was worrying the same thing about you! No chance I would be a moldie, not good enough and too arsey, I'm sure. V. V. glad to see you have not been hoovered up with the rest of the molderers!

Sorry for hijack...

MrsMerryHenry · 29/12/2008 00:15

I definitely don't fit into any clique, whether a MN one or not! I daresay the Molderers would do their level best to keep the likes of me well and truly out!

Do you know anyone who has turned mouldy then?

Epithet...hmmm...one of those words I ought to know the meaning of! Please elucidate! (there, do I sound like I still have a brain?!)

thumbwitch · 29/12/2008 00:21

n. epithet

A term used to characterize a person or thing, such as rosy-fingered in rosy-fingered dawn or the Great in Catherine the Great.
A term used as a descriptive substitute for the name or title of a person, such as The Great Emancipator for Abraham Lincoln.
An abusive or contemptuous word or phrase.
Biology. A word in the scientific name of an animal or plant following the name of the genus and denoting a species, variety, or other division of the genus, as sativa in Lactuca sativa.

OK, it was the right word cos I wanted it to mean the first or second one, not the third (or 4th!) one - he was called Beau because of his obsession with fashion and looking good. Or so I gather from that font of historical accuracy, Georgette Heyer!

Moulderers - I am sad that littlelapin has gone over to the mouldy side, some of the others I have never had any interaction with, and I have seen a better side of some of them than I had previously. Bit of a mess really.

MrsMerryHenry · 29/12/2008 00:25

What a shame. I must say I'm rather surprised at MN Towers that they've okayed the whole thing. It seems to fly in the face of what MN is meant to be about - democratic, egalitarian, open (though not necessarily open-minded!). If it were up to me I'd have told them to use use email instead.

(huge apols for hijacking this thread!)

I was going to suggest 'Bear' (Edward) but if it's important that the name on the birth certificate begins with B then that would be no good.

Similarly Bertie (Albert, although could be Bertram I supoose).

thumbwitch · 29/12/2008 23:13

Beresford
Blaise
this is a good site - several pages of Bs with lots of variations

MrsSeanBean - Bearman is a listed name!
