Is the name of my bother in law, dh wants to use this name if we have a baby boy - would it be too out there in the UK?

Not a name I would choose tbh. Am loving the typo BTW

Frizbe · 27/12/2008 21:33

No I don't think so? surely we're multicultural enough?

Bauble99 · 27/12/2008 21:33

Lovely name. We almost called DS4 Raphael and we're in the UK.

Bauble99 · 27/12/2008 21:34

Rafael, Raphael. Both are good.

Wolfblass · 27/12/2008 21:35

I know two Raphaels, both in the UK

One is known as Rav and the other as Raff or Raffy....

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/12/2008 21:35

Would you be happy if his friends shortened it? To Rafa, for example, or Raffy?

LiffeyanFiaRua · 27/12/2008 21:35

I really like it. I think it would have been a bit oooooh that's foreign in 1972 but now, it'd be fine!

thisisyesterday · 27/12/2008 21:36

it's lovely.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/12/2008 21:36

I take it his surname will be foreign too?

Raphael Smith would sound a bit poncey.

Aliway · 27/12/2008 21:39

His brother is known as Rafa so I don't mind, I prefer the other 'angel' Gabriel but he's not having it I have 4 months to work it out though We are a multi cultural couple hopefully that might make it work better.

Aaah, I LOVE Gabriel! I used to think it sounded a bit effeminate TBH, since I met a little boy with that name at DS's nursery and he just suits it (and he's not at all girly, just very cute and cool-looking!)

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/12/2008 21:41

"TILL I met", I mean....doh.

thisisyesterday · 27/12/2008 21:44

hmm I already have a Gabriel. is it too much to have a Raphael as well?

expatinscotland · 27/12/2008 21:45

I have a first cousin called Raphael. But my family is Mexican-American and bi-lingual.

It sounds much better in Spanish, IMO, but he does get called Rafa pretty much all the time.
