for DD3? (due in 6 weeks). I have this as my middle name and also DD1's. I love it as it is a classic name but not sure whether it is a bit, well, boring?

What do you think?

Does it go with Grace & Maya?

Hi

Elisabeth is pretty and classic and sounds lovely with your dd names

My faves are

Abigail
Amy
Caitlin
Lydia
Phoebe
Isabel

I have loads of others but already been used by friens/relatives

joyfuleyes · 23/12/2008 17:21

Love it

TheFallenMadonna · 23/12/2008 17:24

Traditional, but not dull (IMO!)

Lots of abbreviations.

Lots of fab literary and historical associations.

I love it!

abraid · 23/12/2008 17:33

Elizabeth should be spelled with a z unless you is furrin.

TheFallenMadonna · 23/12/2008 17:34

Should?

I mean, I would, but "should" seems a little harsh.

~What is wrong with traditional. Even if you want her to stand out at school etc a traditional middle name won't hurt. And the "s" spelling of Elisabeth makes it a little different.

abraid · 23/12/2008 17:55

Why spell names differently from the norm just to be different (assuming it's not for family reasons, ie, you're naming them after someone)? If a name is usually spelled one way in a country why give your child a lifetime of saying, 'That's Elisabeth with an S', or 'Jenni with an i' or 'Marc with a C'?

LiffeyanFiaRua · 23/12/2008 18:44

i reall like Elizabeth. I love Eliza, LIbby and Beth so you can't go wrong. 3 beautiful nns from Elizabeth.

apuppydaviesisforlife · 23/12/2008 18:54

goes great with grace imho. both my middle names my first name's top ten too, ahead of my time, me

piscesmoon · 23/12/2008 19:14

I love it but prefer Elizabeth-if only because she will have to mention the 's' every time.

The reason I like it spelt with an "S" is that it how it has been spelt in our family for generations! Also I think it looks prettier. The nickname Lissy is probably what I would shorten it to and again, you would need the "S" not the "Z"!

I don't actually think that it matters that much if you have to say Elisabeth with an S when people ask. My name is Helen and you would think that it normal enough for people to get right but if I had a Pound for the amount of times I have to correct people that it is not "Ellen"...

hi honey ! i just texted you a name !

Horton · 23/12/2008 19:43

Elizabeth is a lovely name but I wouldn't give a child the same name as the middle name of an older child. That just seems like you couldn't be arsed to think of another one to me. Sorry if that's blunt.

There are masses of other classic names you could use if you're that way inclined without reusing a middle name. Harriet? Arabella? Isabel? Lucinda? Jemima?

ten10 · 23/12/2008 19:44

Elisabeth is my middle name, and I love it.
and I particularly love it with an 's' rather than a 'z', also think it looks prettier

I think it is definitely making a comeback,
this year I have known three people call their daughters Elizabeth.

With so many shortenings I think it makes a great choice,
My favourites are Libby, Beth and Bess

  • can't text back as phone is dicky but with regards to name you mentioned, I quite like it but DH doesn't! Sorry! Are you nearly sorted for Christmas? I am EXHAUSTED!

Horton, I disagree re middle name of DD1 being used as first name for DD3, I can't see how it matters, if you like a name, you use it. I certainly wouldn't be bothered if my name was my sister's middle name. I can see why some people wouldn't do it though.

I dunno, I just think I'd feel a bit short-changed if that was me. But obviously if you feel differently, go ahead! Elisabeth is a really lovely name.

ninah · 23/12/2008 19:57

love it

nooka · 23/12/2008 20:02

Elisabeth is very nice, classic and not boring. Lots of shortening potential too. Goes well with Grace and Maya. With the plethora of Elisabeth as middle name in the family I would choose something more unusual for her middle name.

paolosgirl · 23/12/2008 20:03

Love it. She can have Elisabeth, or shorten it to Lizzy, Beth, Elise if she prefers.

How nice to have a name post that doesn't ask you for your comments on Bullwinkle or Jumpinjackflash or something

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 23/12/2008 20:05

oh boo.. i though i had cracked it! am ready, and sorted, need to pick up turkey , got DCs new shoes from our favourite shoe shop.. sale is still on ! have got those bits and bobs for you, will make sure you get them before you give birth now get your feet up!

XmasPud · 23/12/2008 20:05

It is my DD1?s middle name and an old family name. My DD2 has shortened it and uses it as her pet name for her big sister. Totally her own thing and I really like the fact that she has this "special" name just used by her. Now and again I wonder whether we should have used it as her first name as I do love it

tentallywillow · 23/12/2008 20:17

I think it is silly to use again if you both have it has a middle name. Your other dc will feel quite left out too.
I really don't think Lissy is one of the nicer shortenings for Elisabeth either.
sorry you did ask

pgwithnumber3 · 23/12/2008 20:43

How about Betsy as a nickname?
