Will my christmas baby hate me if i call him this?

I was due dc4 today and still no sign but the closer it gets to christmas the more my dp is doubting our boys choice of name. It is Christian, which i absolutely adore, but do you think as he gets older people will tease him for being born at christmas and being called Christian? We dont actually know if we are having a boy, but no christmas issues with girls name!

Regardless of when or why, I like Christian more than Christopher (it was a possible here for a while, my name being diminutive -sp?- of Christine), but I would shorten to Christy. I hadn't made then connection to christmas wither.
I used to have a BF whose middle name was Noel (I think his b'day was August).
And found myself pondering over Emmanuel during the christingle earlier today (not that I am having DC4). DS3 (June baby) has a very "seasonal but biblical" name (not Jesus). I wonder if he will oust the girls in that nativity?

thumbElf · 22/12/2008 01:04

Like most others here, I say why not? It's a nice name (and yes, I also thought it was going to be Noel and would have said NOooooo!) and not automatically associated as being a Christmassy name (which probably says something deep about the way the majority of people think about Christmas)

Good luck anyway!

JodieO · 22/12/2008 01:09

I love that name.

nappyaddict · 22/12/2008 02:29

I thought you were going to say Gabriel or Emmanuelle.

twentypence · 22/12/2008 03:36

I wouldn't worry even if he makes an appearance on Christmas day. I would never have made the connection if you hadn't.

funkydude · 22/12/2008 07:31

Go for it! Unless your surname is Church...

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 22/12/2008 07:42

I love the name Christian! It's DS's middle name.

I would use it if i liked it regardless of the xmas link, which i don't think os to obvious, its nt like your going to call him Santa or Mistletoe or anything.

seeker · 22/12/2008 08:04

this is interesting - so do non-Christian people use Christian as a name?

stillenacht · 22/12/2008 08:11

I loved Christian as a name and wanted it for my DS1 but DH didn't ....so DS1 got a different name.

yellowflowers · 22/12/2008 09:16

I'm not Christian and wouldn't use it as a name. Or Christopher.
So yes, is definitely associated with Christianity.

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 22/12/2008 09:43

I'm Christine and would have been Christian if I was a boy - I was born on Christmas Eve at 11.55pm! Now that was good timing

actually nappy i already have a Gabriel! although he has a february birthday. We also have a Francis, so as my dp says he feels a bit strange having an angel, saint and a religion for his sons names as he is an atheist(!) However i am catholic as are the children, so their names dont stick out in our community or circle of friends. Also i have never chosen names based on the religious meaning i have chosen them because i love them and they seem to have a connection with my unborn child .. and i have to say i (well we, but i get the final say being the one who does all the child bearing!) have not been wrong so far
And strangley my dd does not have a religious name and if this one is a girl the name i have chosen is not relgious either!

I would use christopher even if i wasn't christian ... not sure about christian.

GloooooooooooooooooooRia · 22/12/2008 13:20

me too reban, June though. No religious reason, just the best of the ones we chose.

TipsyFairydifferentID · 22/12/2008 13:21

really? I know 3 Christians(given names) not oen of them is Christian. One is a Jedi!

thumbElf · 22/12/2008 14:43

the only CHristian I knew at school was not a church-goer at all; and friends of mine were trying to decided between Alistair and Christian for the DS2 (they went with Alistair in the end, he just didn't LOOK like a Christian), and they aren't Christians either (hm, that starts to get a bit confusing..)

kerala · 23/12/2008 11:14

The only Christian at our school was an utter heartthrob who everyone fancied so always thought it was a cool name.

SO EXCITED my sisters waters have just broken so she will get her christmas baby - her first and very long awaited!

Zebraa · 23/12/2008 11:26

Christian is lovely! Hope he arrives soon!

tinseltime · 23/12/2008 14:10

Lovely name - go for it! Our DC was due at Christmas and we loved the names joseph and Eve but decided to go totally differnet as already an xmas baby (I know 2 Holly's both born on Christmas day....)Christian is nice and can't see it being a problem - classy rather than a predicatable name Good luck!

RumpeliciousChristmasWishes · 23/12/2008 15:41

Claus

Christian is a gorgeous name go for it - also really like Noah in biblical terms not so keen on Soddom (sp?) though (fwink]

Good luck!

goodchristmasgirl · 23/12/2008 15:52

I think it would be fine. Chances are when he's older he'll be 'Chris' anyway.

LOL rumplelicious If it was twins they could be Sodom and Gomorrah!!!

(trust goodcatholicgirl to know the correct spelling )

HSMM · 23/12/2008 15:55

My sister was born at Christmas - Carol!

SilkStockings · 24/12/2008 00:34

reban · 26/12/2008 18:06
