I like it but think it is becoming quite popular (know three Florries born in the last 7 months!)

"How you bore me, Florrie,
With those eyes of vacant blue;
You'll be very sorry, Florrie,
If I marry you.
Though I'm easy-goin', Florrie,
This I swear is true,
I'll throw you down a quarry, Florrie,
If I marry you."

(Saki, 'The Secreet Sin of Septimus Brope')

tassisssss · 18/12/2008 21:11

sorry, makes me think of the fimbles too!

pamelat · 18/12/2008 21:24

I like it. I would use Florence though

delightedoldbag34 · 19/12/2008 00:13

I'd go for Flora and shorten to Florrie if you want to.
(but i'm biased as mummy of a Flora).
Or Florence is also lovely

sonniboo · 19/12/2008 18:16

Really, Florrie is a name???

I like Florence and don't mind Flora but find Florrie, while cute for a baby, sounds really unfeminine for a woman... It also won't travel well in other languages...

thinkingandsad · 19/12/2008 18:46

beautiful name

seeker · 19/12/2008 18:55

Call her Flora or Florence and use Florrie from day 1. It give her options. I don't think Florrie is a good name for the kick-ass corporate lawyer she might become (one of my name checking tests) but Florence is.

I love the name Florence with the nn Florrie. If I do ever have another child this name is on my list of possibilities.

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 19/12/2008 19:52

No to Florrie. I like Florence nn Flora. I still remember my great aunt florrie too vividly.

I know a girl with a Dorrie, short for Dorothea. Thought Thea would have made a nicer nn there too.
