Baby due in spring so name feels perfect.

DH not sure. He thinks there will be lots of jokes made about name at school......? I say kids always find something to joke about - could be too short, too tall or wear glasses!

Flora is lovely name

Nancy66 · 18/12/2008 10:15

Lovely name, very pretty. I like flower names for girls and it's a bit more unusual than the usual: Daisy, Rose, Poppy, Lily

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 18/12/2008 10:15

I really like it. They have even removed that particular slogan from the tub now. It's assumed these days, nothing to advertise so unless adults slag her
lovely name!

gladders · 18/12/2008 10:27

I LOVE it but would never actually use it - the margarine is here to stay and so it will always have negative connotations?

How about Florence?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 18/12/2008 10:29

my friend's dd is Flora. it;s a lovely name.

belcantwait · 18/12/2008 10:33

love it. i wanted it for dd but dh wouldnt have it -it made him think of the buttery spread but it just made me think of flowers. ah well.

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 18/12/2008 10:34

It depends where you live perhaps. I used to live in SW London and I bought a charity calendar from local school. The two most popular names for girls were Flora and Lottie (3 of each in the whole school). The oldest Flora would be about 12 now? So the name is out there, and it is mainstream now. I bet it'll be in the top 100 within 2 yrs, so there will be enough of them for no one individual Flora to be the associated only to a margarine.

Also, go and look on a tub of Flora. It doesn't say the words 'spreads easily' anymore. So unless you're worried that your child will be teased by 30 yr olds then it's not an issue!!

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 18/12/2008 10:39

lovely name - was on my list but had a boy !

Jenbottleofeggnog · 18/12/2008 11:08

I always liked the name Clover, but didn't use it because of the butter!
Flora is more mainstream than Clover though, so I reckon it's OK!

Anna8888 · 18/12/2008 11:09

Absolutely love it - it's my DD's name.

ISpyAMincePie · 18/12/2008 17:57

I think its really pretty, didn't think of the margarine until I read the thread...

flubdub · 18/12/2008 18:00

I automatically thought of margerine.

francagoestohollywood · 18/12/2008 18:04

I think it is beautiful. It was in my list for dd

BlueCowNowIsLowingAndDCAwake · 18/12/2008 18:06

Love it - several round here!

Lulubee · 18/12/2008 21:55

Lovely. On a tanget, I know someone who called their daughter Flora Dora. She is a bit odd though.

squeaver · 18/12/2008 21:58

I love it - I'd say it's posh Scottish. But same people can only think of margarine

SniffyHock · 18/12/2008 21:59

The marg didn't cross my mind - I think it's lovely.

sb6699 · 18/12/2008 22:10

My great-grandmother was called Flora - its beautiful (and squeaver she'd have been thrilled to be called "posh" - and she was scottish).

tvfriend · 18/12/2008 22:57

Lots of little Flora's here in SW London. Lovely name My friends's DD is called Flora and her MIL who is quite posh I think said wasn't impressed as she said it was a 'maid's name'

piscesmoon · 18/12/2008 23:14

I think it is lovely but unfortunately I can't separate it from thought of margarine.

BoccaDellaNativita · 18/12/2008 23:21

How about Fleur?

WinkyWinkola · 18/12/2008 23:25

I love Flora.

I don't even think of the margarine as never used it.

Go for it.

imaginaryfriend · 18/12/2008 23:36

It's lovely. One of dd (6) favourite names.

delightedoldbag34 · 19/12/2008 00:04

I've got one!
She really suits it and is very feisty and cute!
It's a lovely name and quite unusual and lots of people comment on how pretty it is.

And if anyone comments on the margarine thing just perfect a freezing stare with one eyebrow raised in horror that they would dare be so rude. (I have been practising for this to happen but nobody has mentioned margarine to me yet. If they do, I'm prepared!)
