Can i have your thoughts on this please as i'd really like to put it on our short list but DH thinks it's too old for a baby name.
OUR other contenders are:
Lucy, Ruby, Niamh & Scarlett
Thanks

I don't think it's an old woman name at all. It's a nice name.

Countingtheflocksbynight · 15/12/2008 19:43

I love it

elsiepiddock · 15/12/2008 19:43

Clara is a lovely name.

My dcs are at school with a Clara, Lucys (2), a Ruby and Niamhs (3)! Not a Scarlett though

poinsettydog · 15/12/2008 19:44

a cow's name - pah. What sort of special top pedigree cows live in your neck of the woods?

constancereader · 15/12/2008 19:45

Not in the top one hundred in Britain

CountessDracula · 15/12/2008 19:47

jeanjeannie · 15/12/2008 19:51

Clara is a fab name. Popular in DPs family - who are Eastern European.

poinsettydog · 15/12/2008 19:52

poinsettydog · 15/12/2008 19:54

Sidge · 15/12/2008 19:57

I think Clara is a beautiful name, and far less common than Ruby.

It was on my list, along with Claudia, Imogen and Elizabeth!

Cies · 15/12/2008 20:01

I LOVE Clara. It's near the top of my shortlist for Spanish/English girls names for any future dds I have (fingers crossed).

jumpyjan · 15/12/2008 20:07

I dont think its an old woman name at all I think it is very elegant. Like it best out of your other names.

gabygirl · 15/12/2008 20:13

I love, love, love the name Clara.

It's beautiful, classy, feminine, unusual but not 'trendy'.

Like it best of the names on your list.

LiffeyCanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 15/12/2008 20:52

I know a Polish Klara in Ireland. THe way she says her name, it MURDERS it!! Instead of soft, just Clah-rah, she says it KLAGH-RRRAGH!

It kills it. Sorry to offend any Polish people. I'm sure it sounds normal to a Polish person!

SnowballsintheSky · 15/12/2008 20:54

LOL I always think of Heidi's friend as well! I like it.

AnarchyInAManger · 15/12/2008 20:57

Ex left me for a 17 yo called Klara.

So no, its not at all 'old womanny'

[bitter]

disclaimer - I do actually quite like the name, and it is unusual without being ridiculous

BikeRunSki · 15/12/2008 21:38

It was on my list in case DS was a DD. But I live in Yorkshire, not fashiony London.

RachieB · 15/12/2008 23:01

I love it and not at all old ladyish which i hate!

RachieB · 15/12/2008 23:01

Twinklemegan · 15/12/2008 23:07

Clara is by far the best on the list. I'd imagine all old ladies called Clara will called Clara when they were babies too! She'll only be a baby for about one eightieth of her life after all.

I loved the TV adaptation of Heidi and that's what immediately sprang to mind. Nothing wrong with that. It might even go on my list for any future daughter.

noiamnot · 15/12/2008 23:14

clara is lovely.

nix on Scarlett

Ponders · 15/12/2008 23:17

Do you say Claire-ah or Clarr-ah?

Clarr-ah was the lorry driver (?) on Pigeon Street - I always thought it was a cool name.

Have always loved Lucy too - was never able to use it for a DD so gave it to a rabbit instead
