sorry just need to get off my chest. i had a list of names since a teenager i've loved (heartthrob-inspired, I'm afraid!) including River, Jude, Atticus, etc. my sister knows of this list and we used to chat about names. now, she's called her 1st ds Jude (ok as it would only remind me of Jude law, a turnoff). But she now has my favourite girl name, 'Hadley', as her 1st choice for a girl. She's due this week and i can only hope she has another boy.

I should just stop caring and find brand new names but not that easy as you all know!

You need to stop telling your sister your names

If it helps, Hadley makes me think of SPandau Ballet.

SmilePlease · 15/12/2008 19:18

I would say have a word with your sister but it sounds a bit mean to do that to a heavily pregnant lady.

Maybe just bring up the list in a jokey-jokey way and say coincidently Hadley is on the list [laugh some more] but state how silly you were in your teen years... if you see what you mean?

PeachyBidsYouNadoligLlawen · 15/12/2008 19:20

Did you copywrite the names? No? well in that case first to deliver a girl gets it

LynetteScavo · 15/12/2008 19:21

Let her use Hadley- after all this is yur possible niece we are talking about - and so you will love her.

(and there really are lots of girls nimes that are um, nicer)

belgo · 15/12/2008 19:23

agree with Lynettescavo

ScottishMummy · 15/12/2008 19:25

behave no one owns a name.you have a prefernce not absolute sole use.no words necessary unless you want to be really juvenile

so be a gracious aunty,say nowt,move on

combustiblelemon · 15/12/2008 20:05

Just be greatful that she used them first.

Momino · 15/12/2008 21:23

thanks all and laughing at some of the posts . it does sound juvenile, i think my sibling rivalry goes a bit deeper than choosing baby names .

in any case, i do feel better, guess i'm just a hormonal pregnant lady.

Harktheherald, your Spandau comment made me smile and don't think i can think of Hadley any other way now!

congratulations on your pg,next name choice keep it schtum

noiamnot · 15/12/2008 21:56

I think it's pretty shit if she knows you've picked them out for your kids.

ScottishMummy · 15/12/2008 22:01

no one has exclusivity on a name but maybe there is more to this than mere names

RachieB · 15/12/2008 23:05

Hadley as a first name ? .......... for a girl ? ...........?!!!!

be glad / hope she gets to use it before you do ;)

Momino · 16/12/2008 14:26

Hadley is a girl's (can be a boy's) name. I liked it when I was studying Hemingway as a teenager - his wife's name was Hadley. sounds old-fashioned.

no matter anyway as I'm off it now anyway after the Tony Hadley reference. will probably name my girl (if it's a girl) something much worse .
