What do you think of Dilys?

We wanted something Welsh but could not agree on any girls names but we both loved Dilys.

We had boys, but I am just pondering for a potential DC3.

Would we get lots of rections if we used this?

You can be honest as I don't actually have a Dilys and am not even pg!

Makes me think of Fireman Sam.....

BlueChampagne · 01/12/2008 13:14

Dilys is Mum to one of DS's friends so thumbs up here. Has the advantage of being one of the easier to spell Welsh names (NA if you're in Wales!).

Annthecat · 01/12/2008 13:14

I've never seen Fireman sam, was he Welsh?

Yes, and there was a slightly dopey shopkeeper called Dilys.

LuLuBai · 01/12/2008 13:31

There was a Carry On actress called Dilys Something-or-other, so it makes me think 'ooooh saucy.

Miyazaki · 01/12/2008 13:33

love it

DownyEmerald · 01/12/2008 13:36

I met the carry on actress called Dilys something-or-other - an ex-friend's aunt.

Never having seen a carry on film I was slightly at a disadvantage!

squeaver · 01/12/2008 13:37

I like it. It's an un-rediscovered old-fashioned one iyswim.

branflake81 · 01/12/2008 14:37

It's a bit of an old lady name. My dad's cousin is called Dilys and she is nearly 70.

LeakyDAISYcal · 01/12/2008 14:40

lovely. I know a dilys and she is lovely.

janx · 01/12/2008 15:37

I think it is a fab name...if you like it go for it

yellowflowers · 01/12/2008 15:40

only dilys I know now in 30s hated it so much she used middle name

Annthecat · 01/12/2008 15:41

I do like it, but I'm not pregnant. I know I know I should get off the baby name threads.

But you never know....

Go for it, if you love it. It's a nice, rather old fashioned name.

RachieB · 01/12/2008 20:07

its an old lady name

seems to be a revival ,but i am not a fan!

only one i know is a (lovely) old lady with white hair

alittleteapot · 01/12/2008 20:10

I think it's lovely, and very original.

LuLuBai · 01/12/2008 20:11

I do think it Dilys is rather pretty, but on the 'old lady' front you can't top Mabel imho. I love it!

Mammina · 01/12/2008 21:29

I don't know a Dilys under 70 but now that you say it, it has got a nice sound to it... if I have another DD couldn't really call her that bec. her cousin is Dylan

beanieb · 01/12/2008 21:32

For me it's an old ladies name but don't it put you off. More importantly How are you pronouncing it?

StephanieByng · 01/12/2008 22:24

Love it. Dillie for short I reckon

ThePeachyPlumFairy · 01/12/2008 22:25

I like it

Live in wales but know nobody called it, baby or elderly

thumbwitch · 01/12/2008 22:27

bit Dillie-Daydream for my liking.

beanieb - pronounced Dill-iss

You didn't like Gwladys then?

The oldest of old ladies' names are (imo)
Mabel
Mildred
Muriel
All my grandparents' generation.

dizzydixies · 01/12/2008 22:28

I loved Dilys but Dh not so keen

our DD3 is Dylan which suits her

EmmalinaC · 01/12/2008 22:30

Dilys is lovely. So lovely I might suggest it to DH!
