DaisyBuchanon · 13/11/2008 22:30

Blimey, I did a double take then

Great Gatsby, yes? I wonder which one of us has misspelt our name. Does your voice sound like money?

Don't panic, though - adopted Daisy B as a temporary alter-ego but won't use it again Am regular with a different usual name.

gigglewitch · 13/11/2008 22:30

Blake Williams- Quite cool

Edward Williams- Upper class, borng.

Morgan Williams- Chavvy or Welsh

Anuerin Williams- welsh boring geek

Frank Williams- someones grandad. Frankie maybe altenative?

Gene Williams- I only think of Gene Pitney, but would think trying too hard.

Alistair Williams- Sensible but nice, well behaved.

I love the name Anuerin Williams.

BoccaDellaVerita · 13/11/2008 22:48

In 30 years' time, the roll call will be

Blake - has had a few parts in TV soaps but is still waiting for his big break.

Edward - pillar of the community, always returns library books on time

Morgan - slightly dissolute poet

Reid - captain of the local rugby team

Anuerin (isn't it Aneurin?) - member of the Welsh Assembly

Frank - doctor and keen angler

Gene - lead guitarist in pub band

Alistair - accountant

thumbwitch · 13/11/2008 22:50

Edward Williams- MP
Morgan Williams- Welsh, quite like this one
Reid Williams- Estate agents
Anuerin Williams- Welsh no clue on pronunciation
Frank Williams- Formula 1 for sure
Gene Williams- no
Alistair Williams - MP again

CatRace · 13/11/2008 22:51

Edward Williams

Charming tearaway at home and school. Emigrates to Australia at 21 and works in films. Likes dangerous hobbies and younger women.

(Yes, we have one in the family)

suwoo · 13/11/2008 22:57

You are very brave doing this Daisy- don't know if I could have. Good luck with your choice if we don't cumulatively put you off every one of them .

llareggub · 13/11/2008 23:13

Oh, and I love, love, love the nickname Nye for Anuerin. In fact, don't use it, I'll use it if this baby is a boy. Shame I don't have a good Welsh surname like Williams really. And it would probably help to live in Wales, from some of the comments here!

As for the others, well:

Blake Williams: I'd say he was born in the 70s.

Edward Williams: Biased, as I love the name Edward. I always imagine him to be tall, a smiler, with brown floppy hair.

Morgan Williams: Personally I think of Morgan as a name that could be a girl.

Reid Williams: I prefer traditional names, and I regard Reid as a surname

Anuerin Williams: I think I've been clear on this one!

Frank Williams: I know several Frank Williams, and they are all in their 40s

Gene Williams: a tap dancer with silver hair

Alistair Williams: I like it, timeless.

Granny22 · 13/11/2008 23:28

Strange how some o you consider Alistair 'POSH'. Here, in Scotland, it is a classless, general purpose, widely used name with various derivatives - Ally, Al, Ali. Even a Gaelic version ALISDAIR. It would be my choice from this selection, but if I were Welsh I would choose MORGAN which sounds like a hero when said with a Welsh accent.
Edward a no-no here - too many King Edwards tried to conquer the Scots. Only Edwards tolerated in this house are the potatoes.

Pawslikepaddington · 13/11/2008 23:33

DOES NOONE THINK EDWARD SOUNDS LIKE AN UP HIMSELF PRIG?!??! I'm sorry but every Edward I have ever met has been a PSB (Public School Boy), up his own bum, complete idiot to women idiot! Sorry, had to get that off my chest!

llareggub · 13/11/2008 23:36

No, I love the name Edward. I may well call this baby Edward. I love the name Teddy for a baby too.

I don't care what others think of the name. I'm not quite sure why I even read this topic!

LynetteScavo · 13/11/2008 23:39

Blake Williams - Runs though the playgound knocking over all the other kids with out noticing.

Edward Williams. Good looking. Well balanced. Will have an extremly sensible job when he is grown up. Will insist on you buying him a duffle coat. Wont' be short of invitations to other peoples houses for tea.

Morgan Williams - Welsh

Reid Williams - Is great freinds with Blake.

Anuerin Williams- His mother doesn't chat to the other mums on the playgound.

Frank Williams - A good solid kid. Honest and polite.

Gene Williams -

Alistair Williams - His coat is the same as Edwards, but he is more highly strung.

yellowflowers · 14/11/2008 09:37

I like Anuerin - I know a baby Anuerin shortened to Nye - it's fab.

purlease · 14/11/2008 09:44

This is the best feedback I've ever seen on baby names. Good way of thinking about it.

BabyBaby123 · 14/11/2008 09:48

why do you care what others think of 'family background' etc you can't be a sheep all your life - just chose what you like...

Bluestocking · 14/11/2008 09:48

Blake Williams - runs round Tesco getting in everyone's way and eventually gets a clip round the ear from his harrassed mother

Edward Williams - called Ted, good at sport, knows how to talk to grownups

Morgan Williams - begs his mother to cut off his lovely long hair, as his classmates all tell him Morgan is a girl's name

Reid Williams - Blake's little brother, strapped into buggy with Fruitshoot and Gregg's sossie roll

Aneurin Williams - upper middle class lefty parents, spends a lot of time with Croatian au-pair, bit of a tearaway

Frank Williams - no-one has told his parents that the war is over - wears handknitted tanktops and has large collection of priceless antique Dinky toys

Gene Williams - still in Blake and Reid's mother's fond imagination, if she can ever muster the energy to get pregnant again

Alistair Williams - dad is a surgeon, mother is a barrister

sparklestickchick · 14/11/2008 09:49

Blake Williams-sounds a bit high school musical

Edward Williams- named after a grandpa, very traditional solid name

Morgan Williams-i dont like morgan personally but it has a ring to it

Reid Williams-sounds a bit arty

Anuerin Williams-very poetic not sure how to pronounce it

Frank Williams-my garage mecchanic is called this can be 'cutied' up to frankie for a wee boy

Gene Williams-not too sure about that but again it sounds ok with the syrname

Alistair Williams- a bit politiccy sounding will inevitable become ally and that sounds ok ish

I actually think all your names work but i like Edward/Frank lol especially if they have sentimentl reasons behind.

Nancy66 · 14/11/2008 11:11

I can imagine Blake, Reid and Morgan to all be brothers....
