Boys names........

I have two DDs and DH and I never managed to agree on a single boy's name we liked (so it was just as well the DDs turned up!). I just found out that I'm expecting a little boy and am very excited, but utterly stuck for boys names...... I like:

William (but there are so many of them and I'm not sure about Bill or Billy although I like Will)

Robin (it doesn't really need shortening, but I like Rob too so that's fine)

Edward

Which of these do you think I should go for?? Any other fairly traditional names anyone would suggest???

William and Edward are very popular atm.
Robin not so much but it is a lovely name.

What about;
James
Walter - shortened to Walt
Ernie

maretta · 08/11/2008 14:30

I like Edward.
Robin is getting popular as a girls name.

Nancy66 · 08/11/2008 14:32

I like Edward - and Eddie and Ted

Like William and the shortened version of Will - not keen on Billy though.

I always think of Robin as being a bit of a girlie name but that could be because the rone Robin i know IS a bit girlie.

Going down the traditional route, what about:

Max
Henry
George
Freddie
Charles
Joseph
Jonathan
Ben
Johnny
Stanley
Frank

meglet · 08/11/2008 14:34

oh, NBG Walter is fab!

Stanley is pretty good too

Percy is rather cool too.

CuppaTeaJanice · 08/11/2008 14:36

I like John - not that common these days either!

girliefriend · 08/11/2008 14:37

samuel
Alfred
Albert (Albie)

I personaly don't like edward as my nan had a yorkshire terrier by that name! Also think he could come in for a bit of stick with the name robin as it is quite girlie! xXx

I like them all, but I prefer Robert to Robin. Although, I do know a little Robbie whose granddads were Robert and Colin. So, neat huh...

William I like but I don't love it. I like Liam for short too.

Edward is lovely. True becoming popular, but I love Teddy, and maybe Red? What about Richard? Richie for short?

Edward and Richard not so different but Richard much rarer.

Robbie or Edward/Teddy or William/Liam in that order I think.

Nbg · 08/11/2008 14:41

I heart Walter.
Its a great name.

Marcus?

Two baby Cassiuses !? Hatrick has one too. Who was first?

LynetteScavo · 08/11/2008 15:15

Edward. It's a no brianer, IMO.

RachieB · 08/11/2008 15:24

brian)er) ? nah not keen ;)

I like William / Will best

Sesi · 08/11/2008 15:35

I like Robin the most, really don't like it on a girl but think it's sweet for a boy.

William is too popular.

Edward is also getting too popular & it's slightly boring - have Edmund instead, it's the classier, cooler version of Edward anyway (imo).

ohdearwhatamess · 08/11/2008 15:48

All fabulous choices. You have excellent taste.

My favourite of all is William, shortened to Will.

annasmami · 08/11/2008 17:35

All good choices, but William and Edward getting quite popular....

Other traditional names

Edmund
Quentin
Charles
Frederick

jellybeans · 08/11/2008 17:40

William is OK. What about Matthew, Jonathon or Samuel.

Cies · 08/11/2008 17:42

I like William and Edward.

What about Peter, Richard, Michael or John?

LaDiDaDi · 08/11/2008 20:03

I like William and Edward.

Arthur (I love this)
Wilbur
Rupert
Miles
Gregory (another fave that I won't get to use as dp doesn't like alliteration in names)
Nathaniel
Peter

angrypixie · 08/11/2008 20:08

I have an Edward although we have never called him anything other than Teddy :-)

I love Ted, and Ned too but hope he never goes down the Eddie route!

janeite · 08/11/2008 20:08

I like Robin and Edward. William is totally inoffensive but it always makes me want to sing "William It Was Really Nothing" - "How can you stay, with a fat girl who'll say --- would you like to marry me and if you like you can buy the ring..." Janeite goes off on a Morrissey related tangent again - Sorry!
