3 syllable names - please help

I am due in just over a week and can not decide on names. We do not know what we are having so need help on both boys and girls names please!

I already have DD - Annabelle.

Ideally I would like a name with 3 syllables (hence the use of Annabelle for dd) as our surname is short.

Boys and girls suggestions please.
At the moment I like Eloise for a girl and Matthew Thomas for a boy - I know Matthew is only 2 syllables!!! Really not keen on Sebastian, Christopher, Cameron or Alexander (no offence) and Jonathan is OK.
We do have an Irish connection but then also looking for something that works with Annabelle i.e something traditional.

Any help, much appreciated.

Thanks

girlandboy, i was guessing your name!

Is it Vanessa or Melissa? am i right? am i right?

girlandboy · 06/11/2008 21:11

Nope, sorry.

Clue - it begins with A

girlandboy · 06/11/2008 21:16

In fact, just realised that my middle name also has 3 syllables! This is also never mentioned, but I have to say it is REALLY old fashioned, so that'll be why!!

It's my mum's name, and she's in her 70's.

Liffey · 06/11/2008 21:21

Amanda?

Perhaps hasn't been suggested as that's the OP's own name!! Might be a bit confusing. Although, why not? Fathers do it/

Liffey · 06/11/2008 21:21

Alison is my next guess.

girlandboy · 06/11/2008 21:22

No, you're still wrong!

Liffey · 06/11/2008 21:24

Angela?

girlandboy · 06/11/2008 21:26

Oh well done!

Is it old fashioned? It must be, I've never met any little Angela's running around at playgroups.

fishie · 06/11/2008 21:27

i am called 3 syllables 1 syllable and oh it is dull, esp since i am abbreviated to one syllable first name. and nobody can ever give me a dimunitive. don't get hung up on it op, go for names you like.

harpsichordcarrier · 06/11/2008 21:29

I have a short surname and an Annabel
I also have a Rebecca

other choices for me:
William

Imogen
Natasha
Madeleine
Miranda
Clarissa

Liffey · 06/11/2008 21:47

Anasmumi, Amanda78m, Harpsichordcarrier and frazzledoldbag34 considering Annabel.. I'm going to be flamed here, perhaps! but I think Annabel is a very 'mumsnet name'! I do know know an Annabel in real life. I think it's a beautiful name by the way. I mean mners have good taste obviously. And in my real life I mix with ruffians who call their children Kasie-Lula

Liffey · 06/11/2008 21:47

I mean "I don't know an Annabel in rl

Liffey · 06/11/2008 21:49

girlandboy, funny isn't it, Angela is a perfectly nice name. Feminine and strong and not made up, unusual but not weird, but yet....... I wouldn't consider it for a baby. pamela is another one I'd put in that bracket.

controlfreakyBANG · 06/11/2008 21:51

theodore

augustus

phineas...... all lovely!

(i dont do girls)

girlandboy · 06/11/2008 21:56

Liffey - I really like my name (good job hey!).

Dh and his family call me Angela
My family call me Angie
Strangely enough, people I don't know well tend to immediately abbreviate it to Ange, which I hate because it reminds me of winge and mange!!!!

You're right, it's not a name most people would consider for a baby now. I feel quite special now!

Amanda78 · 27/12/2008 21:30

Sorry for not getting back to you all and thanking you all for your suggestions.

Just to let you know that I had a little boy and called him James Edward. So a one syllable after all! It's funny though because of the 'S' on the end of James it lengthens it somewhat - had not considered that before! Anyhow, merry xmas and happy new year to you all.
