I generally dislike baby name threads but I need to know what other people think of Yoni for a boy.

You may want to consider that it is the term used in the karma sutra for 'fanjo'.

I will say no more.

SuperBunny · 03/11/2008 18:20

Oh, this isn't for me. Someone I know has a 'Yoni' and every time I hear it, I think of the Karma Sutra but wasn't sure if it was just me who immediately thought of that.

Fanjo.

Fanjo.

Fffffaaaaannnnjo.

Thats all that comes to mind.

SuperBunny · 03/11/2008 18:28

Phew!

I wonder if she knows what it means.

I do have some friends who wanted to name their DS John Thomas but had heard a rumour about what it means in the UK. I confirmed that what they heard was true and they changed the Thomas to Stephen Why was I not consulted about Yoni?

FMF, that's how I know what it means. Interest in history and cultures. No other reason at all.

Is it short for something else?

SuperBunny · 03/11/2008 19:01

Yes it is. But he is never called his real name, always Yoni. I don't even remember what his real name is. Jonah, maybe?

Sanskrit for fanjo. Not a good name. It sounds weird and a bit feminine anyway, without the kama sutra connotations.

I knew a Yonatan (i.e. Jonathan) called Yoni so it's just a version of Johny really. I didn't know it meant anything naughty until Yoni suggested I type his name in to Google and click "I'm feeling lucky" - would have perhaps been funnier if our boss hadn't been in the room at the time...
