Love the name, but is it too "sullied" by it's associations (mother and wife(!) of Oedipus)?

nice but v posh

artichokes · 31/10/2008 19:51

I am not sure many people will get the Oedipus connections.

I would be more worried that every Jocasta I have ever met is UBER posh and sloany. Not in a nice balanced way but in a horrid snobby way.

CuppaTeaJanice · 31/10/2008 19:51

Jocasta Innes - where do I know that name from?

....might be something to do with paint?.....

expatinscotland · 31/10/2008 20:09

it's a woman who married her son and then gouged out her eyes.

don't go there.

name her Medea or Clytemestra or Regan or that.

minko · 31/10/2008 20:17

Isn't that one of the 'Modern Parents' in Viz?? That alone would put me off.

MrsGhoulofGhostbourne · 31/10/2008 20:20

EPIS & Minko - yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

frazzledoldbag34 · 31/10/2008 20:24

Sorry but am trying very hard to find something nice to say about Jocasta...........
I guess it depends on your background etc but to me it sounds a little, tiny bit pretentious.
But then, some people like that - (I've got a thread about Portia at the moment, and am sure people would say similar things!)
It is a bit of a mouthful though.
Hmmmmm.

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 20:30

Jocasta innes used to present home front

MrsMattie · 31/10/2008 21:05

Poncetastic.

RottenOtter · 31/10/2008 21:07

one of my all time faves

KerryMmmmkay · 01/11/2008 12:04

Jocasta Innes is author of "the Pauper's Cookbook"

FWIW, our DCs will be state educated. DH and I are both ex-public school, but not at all snobby. Or wealthy . The name would go very well with our surname imo (pleasant alliteration). Provisional middle name would be Lillith.

Would call her Cass for short.

OP posts:
artichokes · 01/11/2008 15:54

If she is going to be state educated then please don't lumber her with Jocasta.

KerryMmmmkay · 01/11/2008 17:15

Er, why not? Will the plebs not be able to handle it? Guess I should stick to calling her Shanice or whatever.

prettybutterfly · 01/11/2008 22:22

Very nice. Whyever not? Some nice short forms which you can use too.
I like Antigone and Electra too!

Anglepoise · 01/11/2008 22:42

The Pauper's Cookbook started me on a (so far) 12 year love affair with cooking which has occasionally included the desire to be a chef ...

I like Jocasta

Tarantella · 02/11/2008 09:54

My daughter was at STATE SCHOOL with a girl named Jocasta, tiny but with a huge personality I think being called Jocasta has only ever been an asset to her!

MannyMoeAndJack · 02/11/2008 17:20

If you like Cass, then why not Cassidy (as per the character in Lost)?

cece · 02/11/2008 17:25

'Don't put your finger in the pasta, Jocasta' from Nick Sharratt book... Sorry that was my first thought

MadamAnt · 02/11/2008 17:26

korma - I hope you are being ironic, as I was.

MadamAnt · 02/11/2008 17:26

MadamAnt · 02/11/2008 17:27
