When I was pregnant with my daughter, I thought of some unusual names for girls. I put it down to the pregnancy hormones, like a lot of things. What do you think of these names, I am usually very conservative and like traditional names but also liked Merrin and Praise. I still quite like Merrin, but my mother in law thinks it sounds hard and boyish. I think it sounds soft and celtic.
I'm just interested to see what you think, could Praise ever work as a girls name? and should we concidder Merrin if we have another girl?

I had Topaz on list for ds had he been a girl. Was not the favourite but on the list nevertheless

I was determined I was going to call dd either Teagan or Ferne, luckily when she was born I came to my senses.

scorpio1 · 27/10/2008 08:36

Teagan is normal here, i know several....Cornwall. dd was very nearly Teagan, but it think its a Cornish name though.

FimboGotAxed · 27/10/2008 08:38

I came across a Merrilees the other day also know a Marlowe

IllegallyBrunette · 27/10/2008 08:41

Dd1 was all set to be Nikita Danielle, and then I changed it right at the last moment, to Lauren Amy.

CoteDAzur · 27/10/2008 08:47

Thank God for that, Illegally.

Nikita is a boy's name. It is the Russian version of Nicholas, and the first name of Khrushchev.

When Elton John first sang the song "Nikita", he was still pretending to be heterosexual, so the song's video clip featured a woman, but it is fairly obvious now that he wrote it for a Russian man.

IllegallyBrunette · 27/10/2008 08:49

I didn't know that

I first heard it on a documentary about a little girl who was ill. She was such a brave little thing.

kslatts · 27/10/2008 09:33

Merrin is lovely, but I'm not keen on Praise.

I think I am going to go against the majority here I don't care for Merrin and have to say I agree with OP's mil there but I think Praise is lovely..

not what I would use (but then we avoided virtue names) but I like it a great deal..

I like praise. I think it is spelt Merryn though isn't it?

I've heard of Nikita being used for either sex.

EnchantedWithEdwardCullen · 01/11/2008 15:52

Merrin is very nice

I'm going to mention it to DH but he will say no.

Im 32 weeks now and still struggling... I found out she was a girl at 17 weeks FGS!!
