This is better than Oslo, right?

ArteMIS is a girl's name..a goddess....haven't heard of ArteMUS for a boy...so he might get mistaken for a girl IMHO

Twelvelegs · 26/10/2008 07:56

It is a greek name meaning gifted and MUS is a boys name!!

Artemis is goddess of the hunt, Artemas (male) is gift of Artemis.

Don't think Artemus is a legitimate spelling.

Eunicewonderstuff · 26/10/2008 08:02

I prefer Arturro/Arthur as a longer name myself.

I always think of Artemis/mas/mus as a girls name.

Twelvelegs · 26/10/2008 08:04

Okay, well pardon me for writing sooooo early. You're spot on it's Artemas!!!!

Well, as a name....I think it's a bit of a shame that Artemis is female as it's a lovely name I think, but I think that the Artemas spelling looks a little odd, IYSWIM. Though until I looked it up in my name book I would not have assumed it was a female name, it sounds and looks quite masculine. Maybe I am alone though.

Twelvelegs · 26/10/2008 08:25

My name book has it firmly in the male side!! But then my book has 40,000 names and includes Labia for a girl!

Alex James from Blur has boys called Artemis (I think with that spelling) and Galileo...

differentWitch · 26/10/2008 08:26

you need to ditch that particular book.

Twelvelegs · 26/10/2008 08:27

Shhhh, don't tell DH but that's where I saw it in magazine at the GP's.

It's a fab book, it has lists like 'loser/geek names' and 'names to make your kids popular'.....very American!

Lol 12legs!

I'm pretty sure it was also an afershave my dad used to wear in the 80s

I'm not putting you off, am I?

Heated · 26/10/2008 08:41

Imo Artemis certainly isn't Fowl.

Will now compose myself with more decorum.

I think it does depend on how well Artemis goes with your surname & whether you can hear yourself calling out "Artemis" in the supermarket.

DD has a, er, distinctive, full name and in hindsight I think an easier name to live with might have been wiser. But I had good pg-fuelled reasons at the time!

2point4kids · 26/10/2008 08:44

Artie is lovely but I would go with Arthur as a full name personally.
I just cant imagine having 'Artemas' beingg called out in the Drs surgery or something! If you can imagine it though, go for it!

Twelvelegs · 26/10/2008 08:46

You'd be surprised what I can go through!!! I like Artie but DH won't have Arthur (David Cameron's son's name).
I have a Carter, Roman and a Mabel already and will soon have to name change!!

OP posts:
2point4kids · 26/10/2008 08:51

Oh I LOVE Mabel! Girls names are so much easier to choose than boys names I find (I only have boys!!) as there are so many pretty ones

Heated · 26/10/2008 08:54

Mabel is beautiful, I agree.

Oh, and the aftershave was Aramis!

Twelvelegs · 26/10/2008 09:02

Heated, perhaps I should call him Kouros!!

Liffey · 26/10/2008 12:59

Twelvelegs, I don't think you can have blend Artemis (for girl or boy) into that already ecclectic mix. I like your children's names, particularly Mabel which is unbelievably gorgeous. Carter and Roman are quite modern/American.

dc4 is a boy is that right?

elsiepiddock · 26/10/2008 13:13

Alex James has an Artemis (and a Geronimo and Galileo )
