Agree with the others - my friend has called her DD Jorja and I hate it (would never tell her though) - what is wrong with the traditional spelling?? And, yes, she did get the idea from the actress from CSI

But I do adore the name Georgia (not that keen on Georgina though)

Jorja - no way, absolutely awful.
Georgia - nice but lots of them about.

Now Georgina, what a fab name . I know a particularly wonderful Georgina who is also regularly called Georgie and mostly called George which suits her down to the ground.

Jorga is terrible! It just looks as if you can't spell. Georgina is my vote.

Jorja is terrible, I'm afraid. I've had professional dealings with 2, and the with first one, I failed to realise how to pronounce it, and thought perhaps it was spanish, so called her "Horha"

Georgia is a nice name, so is Georgina

Jorja is awful

Georgia is pretty but increasingly common

Georgina is classic, timeless and versatile and would be my choice

Oh how weird, DH and I were talking about these names this evening!!!

He prefered Georgia, I prefer Georgina. I probably win!

If you want an alternative spelling (and just to confuse things), I have a relative who lives in Italy and her dd's name is 'Giorgia'.

I have a Georgia and an Indiana, they both love their names.

I like the name Georgia but for some reason really dont like the name Georgina and as for Jorja it just looks like the parents couldnt spell Georgia but i have seen a couple of Jorjas around.

Jorja is just a bastardisationy awful way of spelling Georgia. I remember howling with laughter when my friend told me about a Jorja in her dd toddler group. We thought it was just such a bloody shame way of spelling a lovely name.

Georgia is a lovely name please don't ruin it by spelling it Jorja. CSI is american so unless you are also I don't think it would be a good choice to go down this route.

Jorja is a complete no-no.

Georgia and Georgina are different names, both fine - I prefer Georgina.

Anna8888 · 10/10/2008 14:21

Also like Georgiana.

OrmIrian · 10/10/2008 14:23

Don't like the other 2.

I know a family of 5 with all J names, even the parents; they named their baby Jorja just to fit in!

BabyBaby123 · 10/10/2008 14:48

Georgia - Jorja looks like you can't spell and the registrar has asked you to spell it out and you have - wrong

OMG, I can believe how ugly, rude and very un-hip you ladies all are ! Get with modern times and stop wearing your grandmas underwear! Seriously! Unique names and spellings are far more interesting! Who wants a boring old name that everyone else has...or worse name your child to fit in with your wacked friends!! No wonder you all are so miserable and ugly to each other...so glad we don't behave like you all here. This is just a small thing, I can't imagine how you would react to a 'special needs' child...probably just follow your friends like you did in this stupid blog! Too bad! shock

yawn (to missyLUVSjorja, not the OP)

Georgia and Georgina are both lovely, Georgia possibly a bit too popular a few years back, so I'd go with Georgina.

'Get with modern times and stop wearing your grandmas underwear'

Jorja is Catalan I think. I have seen it in Spain anyway.

I like Georgina and Georgia. I wouldn't use Jorja in GB, it looks silly and kr8tiv imo.

MissyLUvJorja, my child is called Richard and he has Asperger syndrome..

Maybe I should rename him jorje? Do you think that Jorje would suit him better ? Or maybe Rychurd?

I think parents should be free to spell names as they wish but your child will come up against a lot of prejudice and judgement (mostly negative) if you go with the unusual spelling - as is obvious from this thread - so you may want to bear this in mind when making your decision.

Georgia

Jorja is weird. And Georgina is just too much of a boys name + ina/a. Which I hate - Nigella, Tomasina, Henrietta, Harriet.
Think I'd better shut up now - probably really offending loads of people!

Report
RachieB · 30/01/2009 16:16

Georgia is lovely

Jorja NOOOOOOO dont do it!
knew one in playgroup and just thought "why?!!!"

Report
Karamazov · 30/01/2009 16:21

Agree with the others re Jorja. Whilst it is your right to give your kid this name, you would be doing it safe in the knowledge that loads of people would be bitching about you in their heads forever more with various can't she spell properly type thoughts.

Georgia is okay, but a bit masculine for my liking. I don't think of it as a pretty name I have to admit. However, Georgina I think is much nicer, and also has the added benefit of being less popular at the mo. HTH
