It's a great name. Would have used it myself except DS has an Uncle Alasdair and a Great Uncle Alasdair!

its a good name but agree he will always be saying 'with a d' - its very tedious - i have a name that is short for another and i am always having to explain it dull dull dull

There are many ways of spelling Alasdair. Will be shortened to Ali / Ally even if you don't want it to be. But it is a great name with character.

its the over the phone thing and making appts at the docs - people feel they have to check even if you say it clearly

it doesnt really matter if the op loves it, but she did ask for thoughts

I woud definitely go with the original spelling of Alasdair. I think most people have to spell their names out on the phone - Sarah/Sara, Deborah/Debra, Stephen/Steven etc etc ..

I prefer it with a 't' - but because I actually prefer the sound of Alis-tair instead of Alis-dair. I know most people pronounce both the same, but to me there's a difference. When I see it with a 'd' I automatically pronounce the 'd' in my head...!

Oh, it's a wonderful name - go for it ... but I'm biased (proud mum of alasdair aged nearly 12 months).
