Indian / Irish names

Any ideas for boys and girls names that will cross both cultures? Feel it's important for our child to inherit something from both of us. Ideas welcome

How about Rosheen or Roshni for a girl - I believe the first is Irish and the second Indian. They sound very similar to me (and very pretty!)

'Amena' is Celtic and also Muslim/Arabic - but not sure whether common in India.

Kieran/Kiran for a boy.

The Irish name Naoise is prounonced NEE sha which reminds me of the Indian name Neha. If I ever have a DD I will call her Neha, love that name.

i alson know a name which is INDIAN/AMERICAN

my nephew is called CHAKOTAY
may know how to pronouce it if you watch star trek voyger chakotay playes a part in it.

I had an Indian friend at college called Rufia (she said it was quite popular amongst her culture) lovely name IMO and would sound nice in Irish too.

Why not give your child a first name from one culture and a middle name from the other, rather than a made-up sounding name?

Hey everyone, thanks for your responses, lots of good ideas - keep them coming in please - giving us something to think about. We have until April, so lots of thinking time. We are wanting names that are Irish / Indian but from Muslim background in particular. Many many thanks!

as suggested maybe the best bet would one of each?

The first name is particularly important and we feel there will be ones that will have identity for both, so will keep thinking. Cheers

If you want a Muslim name then you would be best to look at a crossover name which is from Islam and Christianity. I don't think there are any Islamic and Irish names that are the same but could be wrong! But lots of Biblical names are used in Ireland, the ones I can think of that are also Islamic are Adam, Zakariya, Miriam, Sara.

The best girls name I can come up with is Janna - reward or present in from al-janna in the Koran and Jana - in Irish means God is Gracious. Pronounced the same way according to some quick surfing anyway! Pretty names
