Call daughter Phoebe when surname is Newby?

I love the name and baby will be arriving on Thursday so time running out.

Does it sound ridiculous? Or could I get away with it?

i think you would only get away with it if you double barrel it with another name, like phoebe-ann or phoebe-jo or some other combination. Otherwise it sounds a bit daft imo.

GordonTheGopher · 27/09/2008 08:43

NO

Does sound a bit ridiculous. Good luck with the birth!

angrypixie · 28/09/2008 20:03

Sorry - but no

Agree that Phoebe-Ann might just work, but under no other circumstances

Good luck

minkersmum · 28/09/2008 22:31

I don't think it matters that much really. if you love the name i'd just go for it. Personally don't like double barreled names so would just go for Phoebe.

For what its worth many people marry and end up with less than ideal name combinations, for the few times when we are called by our full name does it really matter?

I think its kind of got a ring to it!!

Good luck on Thursday.

MrsBadger · 28/09/2008 22:33

No

and Phoebe-jo sounds worse

Fiona? Chloe? Zoe?

moondog · 28/09/2008 22:35

No
And don't db it or you will have her ending up sounding like a Texan trailer trash waitress.

Plonker · 28/09/2008 23:05

I actually rather like it!

Sounds cool to me

lilysmummy2007 · 28/09/2008 23:09

nope does not work, and agree with moondog im afraid!

thumbwitch · 28/09/2008 23:10

not a great start in life!

KAEKAE · 28/09/2008 23:34

nope!!!! I don't think you should do it. I love the name Florence but our surname is Lawrence so I could never use it!

EightiesChick · 28/09/2008 23:40

I love the name Phoebe too but don't think you can do it. As for 'the few times we are called by our full name' - well, at home maybe not, but what about every day on the school register, at any job interview or appointment, at graduation, at her wedding? Sorry, think you ought to look for something else. Shame as it is a lovely name but...

thumbwitch · 28/09/2008 23:47

Maybe you could call her Persephone instead?

Janni · 28/09/2008 23:52

No, it doesn't work as a serious name.

Janni · 28/09/2008 23:54

Fiona Newby
Freya Newby ??

QueenBhannae · 29/09/2008 01:28

no.

Give her your maiden/sur name as a middle name and use it as though it is her last name and maybe it could work.Or double barrel your surnames?

Phoebe Smyth Newby
Phoebe Newby-Smyth

nappyaddict · 29/09/2008 01:54

no

S1ur · 29/09/2008 01:55

er, I think there are better choices.

Eleta · 30/09/2008 13:22
