Love it !!!

It's on our short(ish) list.

seeker · 17/09/2008 14:07

Please tell me you're joking. You can't possibly have two children called Marmaduke and Theodore!

MadreInglese · 17/09/2008 14:10

My favourite pet ever was a big fat friendly b&w cat called Marmaduke, he was lovely

So I'd say go for it!

(assuming you are naming your new kitten and not a child)

casbie · 17/09/2008 14:17

no, just because i like names that you can abbreviate...

marmaduke

duke

marmie (?)

mars (?)

nope!

Heated · 17/09/2008 14:22

That's one that I wouldn't choose, but I do look fondly on names like Montgomery.

MadamAnt · 17/09/2008 14:31

I'm quite surprised at the strength of feeling on here! I quite like it, but would find it hard to shorten to a good nickname.

seeker - are all your children called Dave?

Spink · 17/09/2008 14:35

I think it is LOVELY. One of my friends named her ds this, and I wasn't sure about it at first, but now I've got my head around it, it's just fab. They call him Duke mostly.

aw, no, not dog like in any way.

I think it's one of those names that is SO unusual you can't imagine it being right in any way.. until you actually meet one, and think, oh yeah, that makes sense.

This friend is not 'posh', they're pretty arty and laid back, and it just really fits this lovely little boy.

Philpot · 17/09/2008 14:52

Rhubarb - I actually did that to the face of a man at work who said he almost called his daughter Epiphany. feel quite bad about that now.

Philpot · 17/09/2008 14:53

I think it's fine if pronounced 'Marmadook'. Say it to yourself. Sounds like a side-kick for Columbo or someone.

Rhubarb · 17/09/2008 14:58

I only hope they send their kids to private schools, or else they'll just be fodder meat!

tiredlady · 17/09/2008 15:06

I think it's a fab name, but can only be carried off by the terrifically posh.

Anyone who is not aristocracy would have the piss taken out of then constantly

KAEKAE · 24/09/2008 16:47

Glad you like it.

excellent name

noonki · 24/09/2008 19:13

I love the name Duke (but it makes me laugh) -

BabyBaby123 · 24/09/2008 19:49

no - awful - sorry

pigleychez · 28/09/2008 15:16

Reminds me of a big giant dog! Like a great dane or something!

mummyloveslucy · 28/09/2008 18:28

This has to be a joke!

If not, then it could be classed as cruelty.

frazzledoldbag34 · 28/09/2008 19:53

You must be very posh?
And if so, you can probably get away with it.
But really, I do mean EXCEPTIONALLY posh, not just run-of-the-mill posh. Two butlers minimum in the household I'd say.

Bluestocking · 28/09/2008 20:00

Bear Grylls' son is called Marmaduke Mickey Percy. Wouldn't that give you pause for thought?

KAEKAE · 28/09/2008 23:39

I am from Sarf London, posh not!
