I like Jamie - it's my dh's name!

GrimmaTheNome · 15/09/2008 14:41

I know a couple of Jamies - think its quite popular but not overly so, and it is a nice name.

KristinaM · 15/09/2008 14:42

yes its lovely. i would put james on his birth certificate, so that he has the choice of names when he is older. but defo go for jamie

ChacunaSonGout · 15/09/2008 14:43

It seemed to be number 1 name about 18 years ago when my friends started having babies, but it's a long time now since I heard of a baby called James or Jamie.

I'd also put James on the birth certificate - Jamie is a lovely name for a little boy but once he's older he may like to have the option of being James.

travellingwilbury · 15/09/2008 15:40

A great name and you have great taste

yomellamoHelly · 15/09/2008 15:44

My husband is James and was known as Jamie 'til he was about 11 and decided he wanted to be a Jim.

PeppermintPatty · 15/09/2008 15:44

Fimbo · 15/09/2008 17:37

Jamie was dd's name. Lots when she was born 10 years ago, not so many now.

We went with something different when we did eventually have a ds, as I felt Jamie was dd's name iyswim.

pointydog · 15/09/2008 17:39

It's var popular in Scotland. I find it a bit babyish

clairebear88 · 17/09/2008 13:17

Lovely name - My lovely 38 year old brother's name. He's always been Jamie - never Jim or James. ( although James on Birth Cert'.)

However when my parents told my GPs the new baby's name they were horrified. They were from Edinburgh, so imagine the accent. 'Ooooh no - would always think of 'wee Jamie' the servant boy' (not that they had servants or anything!)

..so Jamie it was!!

platypussy · 17/09/2008 13:49

Agree - lovely name.

IndigoBlue · 18/09/2008 13:46

My 4 month old ds is Jamie. We really struggled to find a boys name we liked and weren't even 100% about Jamie but it seems to suit him. Chloe was one of my favourite names too if he'd been a girl.

nickeldime · 20/09/2008 13:58

Jamie is currently more common for girls: "In 2006, the name Jamie was given to 3 times as many girls than boys", according to: www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Jamie/m

Nevertheless, it still sounds great as a boy name!

bikerunski · 20/09/2008 17:40

I know a James in his mid 50s who has been know as Jamie all his life, and it really suits him.

findtheriver · 20/09/2008 18:47

James is lovely.

bronze · 20/09/2008 18:51

I have a James who until recently didn't realise his name isn't actually Jamie (hes 3) or Jimbob come to that

I also like Jim and Jimmy for when hes older so he can choose.

pigleychez · 28/09/2008 15:26

My DH is Jamie..

Jamie on his birth certificate and has always been called Jamie.

Alot of older people ask if his real name is James - think is a generation thing.

My parents call him J. and his nickname from his mates is Jimbob. No idea why!!

DH is 29 and agree that you dont hear it quite so much anymore.

mummy2000 · 28/09/2008 17:20

Jamie is a lovely name.
