I can't muster any enthusiasm for any names

Expecting a DS next month (have a DD already), DH and I can't agree on names. Lost enthusiasm and can't find anything I really love - some I would be ok with but I haven't found any with that wow factor...sigh...

My ds1 is called Sean.

butterflybessie · 07/09/2008 18:39

Rufus has too much of a connection with red (Rufus the Red) - v contrived

Love the other names, personally think Jude goes really well

cece · 07/09/2008 18:47
  1. Ethan - too 'American' for my tastes
  2. Leo - OK but not sure it goes with your DD's name
  3. Finn - too popular
  4. Oscar - also quite popular
  5. Theo - OK
  6. Jude - not for a boy
  7. Reuben - not for me this one either
  8. Lawrence - OK
  9. Elijah - not for me but I can see why you like it
10. Felix - catfood? 11. Isaac - quite popular 12. Joseph - nice but also popular 13. Joshua - also nice but lots aorund here 14. Lucas - never sure about this one 15. Rio - as in Duran Duran? 16. Rufus - er no! 17. Fran - prefer Frances 18. Jesse - NO! 19. Toby - nice but again very popular and loads around here.

What about John?

Scarletibis · 07/09/2008 18:49

Out of your list I like Ethan, Leo, Lucas.

Also fave boys names of mine are: Arran, Daniel.

jchandler · 07/09/2008 21:01

i know a scarlett with a brother Jesse. He is often mistaken for i girl when people read his name!!
Love hugo

LazyLinePainterJane · 07/09/2008 21:07

I love Rufus. In fact, years ago I had a dog called Rufus and I love the name so much, I don't even care and would use it anyway!

Also like Finn, Noah, Reuben, Toby.

Coastal · 29/09/2008 22:20

Felix is the best option - Scarlett and Felix. Perfect.

singersgirl · 29/09/2008 22:31

I think Rufus is a great name, but would hesitate with Scarlett as it would sound as if you had a thing about red. Unless they are both red-haired, but then it would be a bit much.

I also like:
Theo
Laurie/Lawrie (I know one of each)
Leo

Felix/Oscar/Finn/Toby all very popular round her - Theo too.

Playdough · 06/10/2008 16:48

Just a thought: doesn't Jesse have gay connotations, or should we be rising above such things?

Fimbo · 06/10/2008 23:58

I too was like you, had a dd with a name I loved couldn't come up with a boys name at all. I eventually agreed with a suggestion of dh's. Quite like the name now but disliked it pre children.

randomuser · 07/10/2008 00:20

was also gonna suggets Rhett ; but if you want to stick with the red theme, go for Rory or Rufus. Or Garnet?

SmugColditz · 07/10/2008 00:57

Linsey

Wizzska · 07/10/2008 12:31

My DS is called Rory, so I like that Randomuser. We couldn't think of a name at all until I was in labour with DS. DH was told by midwife to go home and shower as had been in hosp all weekend. He checked the racehorses running that day for inspiration and there was one called Guitar Rory, so we chose Rory.

Moogatron · 07/10/2008 16:16

Reuben goes well with Scarlett as I always think Reuben sounds red.

randomuser · 07/10/2008 23:07

hoa wbout Johann?

BlueChampagne · 08/10/2008 13:22

We didn't know if we were having a boy or girl, but were sorted for girls names very early but still struggling with boys until last weeks of pregnancy. Like you, nothing had the 'wow' factor compared with our girl's name. In the end, we had a shortlist of 8, and wrote each one on a separate piece of card, 2 sets. Then DH & I put them in our orders of preference (no conferring) and we used the 2 highest placed matches for 1st and 2nd names (my 2nd and 3rd choices, & DH's 1st & 2nd). DS Aidan Justin - Aidan means FIRE which might help your red theme

Wavedancer · 08/10/2008 22:01

Sorry, but I just don't get this thing about siblings' names 'going together' - the kids are individual, what does it matter how they sound together, as long as they don't sound too similar to each other (e.g John and Joan)? Just my opinion....

Out of your list, I like Oscar, Jude, Theo and Reuben best. Good luck, I am finding boys names so hard as well....

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 22/10/2008 18:49

THanks for all the suggestions . DS was born on Thursday and we called him Zachary.

SquiffyHock · 22/10/2008 19:38

Zachary is a FAB name - congratulations!!

Just out of interest, what is Gus short for? I think I like it...

MrsMattie · 22/10/2008 19:54

Congrats milf! Lovely name. I like it, too, but DH not entertaining it

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 23/10/2008 10:43

MrsMattie - DH wasn't sure either but after birthing a nearly 10lb baby at home without pain relief he was willing to agree to anything
