I know where they are from (and I may have been influenced by the pregnancy hormones also) but the more I think about these, the more I like them.
So Arrietty and Homily for a girl, what do you think?

And Pod if it's a boy?

janeite · 06/09/2008 19:25

Lol - Arietty is lovely; don't like Homily purely because it makes me think of the character who is rather sharp and fussy iirc.

georgiemum · 06/09/2008 19:25

Emmm. A little unusual? Isn't a homily a note on a bible passage?

No.

Is you surname Clock? If so then no, if not they are better than burberry and chardonnay.

I know Homily is riskier because of the sermon meaning.
I think Arrietty with a shortening of Etty could be quite nice.
I do like unusual names.

'Fraid Pod doesn't appeal

I know an Etty, short for Etty-Ann tho. Prefer Arrietty rather than Homily.

Anglepoise · 06/09/2008 20:24

I'm slightly ashamed I didn't recognise where they're from

I like them though, particularly Arrietty

Lizzylou · 06/09/2008 20:25

Romilly instead maybe?

Wilkiepedia · 06/09/2008 20:27

P.M.S.L.

Sorry but PLEASE don't do that to your child...

MrsMattie · 06/09/2008 20:27

Barmy

Janni · 06/09/2008 20:27

OK you can have Ariadne or Harriet but I forbid you to call your daughter after a Borrower. And as for Homily? Words fail me.

JustineMumsnot · 06/09/2008 20:30

are you a very small family?

snooks · 06/09/2008 20:32

Sorry, in theory I like them but in reality...please do the test of imagining shouting your dc by either name in the park, in tescos etc etc. .

janeite · 06/09/2008 20:32

Ariadne and Harriet are both great names.

JoolsToo · 06/09/2008 20:39

no, no, no!

Slashtrophe · 06/09/2008 20:41

I really like Arriety and considered it myself. Luckily I have boys, and no not called Pod. There could be far worse names, Arietty was a feisty little thing.

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 06/09/2008 20:43

Sorry not in the mood to dress it up, 'tis just this side of child abuse.

dooneygirl · 06/09/2008 20:44

I was doing a quick scan down the list of threads, and wondered why anyone would want to name their child Homely.

Janni · 06/09/2008 20:45

Please take a long term view. When her classmates read or watch 'The Borrowers' do you think they're going to forget to tease her??
