Not even pregnant yet - well possibly but DH and I don't like ANY boys names enough to use and DH last night suggested ELTON. Initially I laughed and dismissed it, but you know what, it's actually growing on me.........any thoughts ???

Thought you'd all say that......
And I probably would never dare but at least its's not dull.
His other suggestions were Ray (!) and Hamish

oh, sod it, I'm going to go against the grain...

I mean noooo but kind of 'yes!' too - I know what you mean about the growing thing (and I've only been considering it for a few minutes).

trouble is, it's hard not to think that Elton John kind of owns the name but maybe it's time to prise it away from him

frazzledoldbag34 · 03/09/2008 20:52

although Elton is actually Reginald isn't he (and that's not good)

NotAnOtter · 03/09/2008 20:53

I have a friend called Elton. It took a bit of getting used to but actually I quite like it.

Its a very old name isn't it?

S1ur · 03/09/2008 20:54

frazzledoldbag34 · 03/09/2008 20:56

butterflybessie · 03/09/2008 20:57

What is wrong with Hamish - lovely name, think of MacBeth

Janni · 03/09/2008 20:58

No. Don't do it. Just don't. Because I said so

ShovellyJoe · 03/09/2008 20:59

Ooh I like Hamish but is Scottish for "like a house".

Elasticwoman · 03/09/2008 20:59

Mr and Mrs Elton were both unsympathetic characters in Emma (Jane Austen).

pointydog · 03/09/2008 21:10

No. The association with the beauteous (in apprearance an dcharacter) Elton John is more than enough to damn that name.

frazzledoldbag34 · 03/09/2008 21:21

OH Janni why not? Is it because you want it for yourself?

Frazzled - now, I'm a wizened onld crone who's past child bearing, but I have been around enough children and their parents these past twelve years to know that a child called Elton has a lot resting on his shoulders.

Weegiemum · 03/09/2008 22:43

Hamish is actually quite common in Scotland - well not common common, but not weird enough to raise any eyebrows. Depends where you are though, might not play out so well in other parts of the country.

I know a Hamish Brodie who is 4 - fabbbbulous name!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 03/09/2008 22:48

The only Elton I actually know (inexplicably, Elton and David don't invite me to their parties) is a laydee.

3andnomore · 04/09/2008 14:16

yuk...only Elton John can get away with it, lol!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 04/09/2008 14:20

You might want to try other unusual names such as Elvis or maybe Jesus????

georgiemum · 04/09/2008 14:21

People will always ask him if you or dad were big fans.
