okay i'm gonna risk it and open up the name debate...

Boys name sorted: Henry William (grandads names)

Girls name was either Sophie or Lily (popular but i dont care..) with either Ella, Ava or Mae as middle name.. popular again.... i know, i know.

we really liked Sophie and our surname begins with S so the alliteration actually sounds nice but when combined with any of the above middle names it gives dubious initials.

Dh has now emailed with:
Sophie Nicole
Sophie Willow
Sophie Scarlett (think he likes alliteration)
Sophie Lydia (lydia was my preferred 1st name

i think i can assume lily is out then...but come on Mners offer some opinion and alternatives as my mind is scrambled. You know it'll be a girl with so much indecision!!!!

I think middle names should mean something, Irene is lovely, or do you have any friends you could name her after as middle name?

angelene · 03/09/2008 15:46

Sophie Willow is lovely and I think SWS is Welsh for kiss!

clumsymum · 03/09/2008 16:29

I wouldn't worry about initials really, as long as they don't spell PIG or something.

After all, SMS may be known as a text message now (not that anyone calls it that any more), but by the time your baby is 5 that acronym will probably have died completely, and whatever combination you choose may well be a common acronym in a few years time.

TwoWindyDays · 03/09/2008 18:22

Sophie Lydia is my favourite

Stars22 · 03/09/2008 19:24

Firstly i love the name you have chosen (thats because its my name lol) My name is Sophie Eleanor.
Out of the names you have chosen i think Sophie Nicole flows the best.

CountessDracula · 03/09/2008 19:27

My SIL is Sophie Frances if that is any help!

Shoshe · 03/09/2008 19:40

I know a little 2 year old who is Sophie Sarah Sanderson!

ethanchristopher · 03/09/2008 20:44

Sophie Elizabeth

Sophie Mae

Sophie Alice

by the way i LOVE henry william. and also he will be the new prince :D (am not being sarcastic i do love the traditional names!!!)

frazzledoldbag34 · 03/09/2008 21:40

Why not have 2 middle names?
and what about Sophia as an alternative to Sophie (as it is quite common at the mo?)
And Lydia is really lovely IMO (sighs longingly for 3rd daughter to name.....)

AnotherFineMess · 04/09/2008 00:12

How many syllables does your surname have? I like Sophie Louisa but that would go best with a short surname IMO.

MrsJohnCusack · 04/09/2008 00:23

I like IRene
Sophie Irene. or Sophia Irene

(Henry obv fab as I have one)

tortoiseshell · 04/09/2008 00:27

Sophie Helen
Sophie Anne
Sophie Clover
Sophie Rose (though VERY VERY common as a middle name atm- just thinking of flower names)
Sophie Rowan

Niecie · 04/09/2008 00:31

Sophie Lydia is lovely but personally I think it flows better as Lydia Sophie.

I like Sophie Nicole and Sophie Willow.

Sophie Scarlett is too much alliteration with an S surname and Sophie Lydia doesn't flow (though I really like the name Lydia).

thank you to everyone, its truly blown my mind as so many suggestions. think im going to keep copy of this and wait to see what "she" looks like.... probably a henry william and the post will have been futile. although i do feel more empowered to push for lydia again

Sophie Lydia sounds very pretty!

FlirtyThirty · 25/09/2008 12:07

My initials are SES - has done me no harm.
In fact, as a teenager I was disappointed not to be SOS!

groovergirl · 25/09/2008 12:23

How about some close alliteration --- Sophie Seraphine.
As for Mae, ew ew ew. Such ugly white-trash spelling. May is elegant. But then, unless the kid is born in May, why use it?

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 25/09/2008 12:50

I love sophie and lydia

I have a lydia and am shocked by the number of people that comment on how lovely it is....dd1 is Milly and no one ever comments on that!!!! ( well i suppose it is v common now

BabyBaby123 · 25/09/2008 12:59

Lydia Sophie

Sophie is over used as a first name imo!
