Lauriefairycake - do you know my cousin? She was called Heather and died a few years ago aged about 40. Named my DD after her.

geordieminx · 01/09/2008 08:42

I get "H" for short which I love, and I think suts me quite well.

wombleprincess · 01/09/2008 09:50

very pretty, and not very common these days

Pinkglow · 01/09/2008 10:02

My sister has that name, she was always the only one in school etc with that name so has always stood out - I really like it

EvelynsDad · 01/09/2008 15:56

Lovely name.

Lauriefairycake · 01/09/2008 19:16

Penona- if she lived in Aylesbury then yes

pointydog · 01/09/2008 19:27

I realaly like Heather. ANother of those slightly dated Scottish names, like Lorna, which is coming back in.

TheNaughtiestGirlIsaMonitor · 01/09/2008 20:12

I like it. I know a Mum with a Heather and an Amber, whichi I think is lovely. Very anti-fashion, but not in a silly way. very unusual nowadays too.

I like names that aren't obviously up and coming. I like to think outside the box (sorry, wanky phrase alert) and consider names like Melanie, Jilian and so on)

mymblemummy · 01/09/2008 22:10

Buda, are you my friend?! Oh no, I don't call myself Hev so I can't be the same one.

I've always liked my name being fairly unusual. It makes life simpler. I know three Kates and three Katy/Katies which can make conversations confusing.

SoMuchToBits · 01/09/2008 22:28

I'm Heather, but have always disliked my name. I haven't found there are too many others around, and it is certainly less popular now than it was when I was young.

It's also very difficult for non-English speaking people, e.g. when we were recently on holiday in Italy I had to give my name for when our order was ready in a cafe - the waitress ende up writing it down as "Edda", because she just couldn't cope with Heather!

NotAnOtter · 01/09/2008 22:33

dps favourite name

Janni · 01/09/2008 22:38

I personally don't like it, but it's not awful and would not cause any raised eyebrows.

penona · 02/09/2008 15:55

Lauriefairycake - yes she did. How nice to know she made an impact on you too

I think it is a bit old fashioned. When I think of Heather I think of tweed ?????

EsmeWeatherwax · 03/09/2008 14:12

My dd is called Heather, so I love it! Don't know if I would have liked it if I lived anywhere other than Scotland mind. If I have another dd she'll be Holly. I like flowery but not twee names, obviously. Willow and Amber are lovely too.

kitsmummy · 03/09/2008 14:49

My best friend is Heather, and her sister Hazel. However there's no good way of shortening Heather, it always ends up as Hev, which is pretty bad imo.

DanJARMouse · 03/09/2008 14:53

My cousin is 12 and is the only Heather I know.

Her little sister is Hannah, and its a nightmare trying to say Heather and Hannah quickly!

heather1980 · 05/09/2008 19:58

i like it but only because i'm heather (aged 28)and my sister is called lorna. typical scottish names!

geordieminx · 06/09/2008 19:14

Heather1980 - where abouts in scotland are you?

Frizbe · 07/09/2008 11:52

Buda I'm a Hev for short too! or sometimes H, depends on which friends I'm with! I like my name, although lol I have an Auntie called Hazel, also know a few Lornas too I've even worked in two places where there have been 3 of us Heathers just like the movie!
