Struggling for a boys name - I love Maddox but will people think I'm a celeb wannabe?..

Have got 2 fairly unusual kids names already so don't want anything too 'normal' and have 19 nieces and nephews who have taken up loads of names I like.

Just really stuck for a boy but always liked Maddox - would people think I was a knob?!

Also like Nate....

to celebby, imo....sorry!

kitsmummy · 03/09/2008 14:58

Oh gosh, if you have a Rocco I would say you DEFINITELY can't go for a Maddox - you would sound desperately wannabe. Don't mean to say that you are a wannabe but i think people would definitely assume that's the case. Nate is lovely.

branflake81 · 03/09/2008 15:32

Nate is short for Nathan though and not a name in its own right.

'Tis also v American.

sitdownpleasegeorge · 03/09/2008 15:39

If your existing children already have "fairly unusual names" people may already think of you as a "knob" when it comes to naming your children so don't hesitate to use Maddox if you really like it.

Maddox makes me think of Radox or Detox. Mind you, those are probably on Brangelina's list for the next batch of kids.

Anglepoise · 03/09/2008 20:27

I was another going to suggest Madoc or Maddog as an alternative - think they're fab.

Seriously, how long are people going to remember the names of Brangelina's kids for? Not everyone knows them now!

ethanchristopher · 03/09/2008 20:45

i do love nate

also for "unusal"

Keegan
Logan
Dylan
Archie

ethanchristopher · 03/09/2008 20:47

And can i just say to Anglepoise if you called a child Maddog then went to Wales you would be looked at as a knob. Because it is like calling your chid Burgh or ingham. it is the ending of a place name for many places in wales. dont do it!!

Wilkiepedia · 03/09/2008 20:50

Nate is lovely (I might steal it...)

I like Maddox but you will defo get the Brangelina connections made

i like nate. i have always loved that name but if i have a boy dh is insisting that we call him george. bah! actually i like to george too so meh!

for unusual i have always liked malachy or kia.

Anglepoise · 03/09/2008 23:22

ethanchristopher, the internet seems to think that Maddog/Madog is a Welsh name! For now I'll stay this side of the border though

MouseMate · 04/09/2008 08:07

But wouldnt Maddog be pronounced Math-og (dd is a 'th' sound in Welsh)

Anglepoise · 04/09/2008 14:16

Long-term Wales resident says kind of but it's a hard th not a soft one. Which does slightly spoil the appeal for me (I also like Dogmael - can you see a link? )

dizzydixies · 04/09/2008 14:21

my friend has a rocco and a lola & appreciates what people may think about it but doesn't care

if you love it use it

what about
tadgh
raphael
rufus
cassius/cassian
nico
roan
roman

for a bit more unusual?
