What do you think I'm not Pg yet but I am reading a book with the name in it and really like it .

Friend's son is called Ged, I've always liked it. I take it you're not planning on going the whole way and registering him as J/Gedediah though...

stillstanding · 27/08/2008 13:47

Not really keen. Not a full name in my book

Imnotok · 27/08/2008 13:51

Went to college with a guy called Jed.....OMG he was gorgeous! (and it was his given name, not a short version)

Nyx · 27/08/2008 13:54

Jed was the name we were going to call our dd if she'd been a boy...I really like it, it is short, but I thought it was kind of funky. The number of people who just outright hated it though, when I mentioned it, amazed me. I was told it was a hillbilly name. It didn't change our minds though Mind you, after all that standing strong against the waves of familial disapproval, dd was born. They were all relieved!

Imnotok · 27/08/2008 13:57

You see I called my dd a compromise name as everyone hated the name I always regretted it although her name is pretty I always wish I had stuck to my guns with the original name .

I really like it. Think it suits all ages too.

happynappies · 27/08/2008 14:02

My Dad changed his name when he was a student from Gerald to Ged after someone in the 1960s programme Z-Cars... He's been Ged ever since, and nobody has ever said anything negative about his name (although it often gets spelled 'Jed'). Go for it.

SydneyB · 27/08/2008 14:02

I thought it was an abbreviation of John Edward, traditionally? A friend of mine has a Jed and I always thought it sounded a bit Lady Chatterley/Gardeners World. Which of course there's nothing wrong with.

squeaver · 27/08/2008 14:03

Are you a West Wing fan? It's short for Josiah in President Bartlett's case. I like it.

Imnotok · 27/08/2008 14:04

No I am not a West wing fan but I like Josiah

Love it, in fact I just tried it out on my husband for our bump, but got a "God No" in response!

LadySanders · 27/08/2008 15:53

love it, a friend has a jed, would have happily nicked it for ds2 if dp had agreed

dinny · 27/08/2008 15:56

I've got a Ned

but Jed always reminds me of Alan Partridge's Biggest Fan - remember?

I prefer Ned but Jed is good.

stillstanding · 27/08/2008 17:14

Apparently since West Wing the number of Jed's and Toby's and Sam's and Josh's has gone up hugely! Friends of mine were appalled that we chose a name that wasnt WW as they think it is the only way to go

Chuffinnora · 27/08/2008 17:24

I like it but I would assume his full name was Gerald. Not necessarily a bad thing. Probably Gerald, Keith and Alan type names are due for a revival soon.

CuckooSplodgeandTubs · 27/08/2008 17:31

I prefer it as a nn for Jeremy/Gerard. or what about Jared iwth nn Red or Jed.

squeaver · 27/08/2008 18:52

lol at everyone choosing names from WW
