Archie is over used. Louis is lovely.

BellaBear · 26/08/2008 16:35

Louis

(pronounced loo-ee)

pagwatch · 26/08/2008 16:37

my beautiful biggest boy is Louis
He is 15 now.
He does get a bit fed up with dimwits who pronounce it Lou -iss but he likes it.
I still love it.
and he is so gorgeous and lovely..
aaahhh

stillstanding · 26/08/2008 16:41

Think these are both lovely names. MrsMattie has a point tho that Archie is becoming a little too popular (for my liking anyway) so would go with Louis

chocolatespiders · 26/08/2008 16:43

louis/louie

belgo · 26/08/2008 16:44

Louis, as long as you make it clear from the start it's pronounced Louie.

ltrue · 26/08/2008 16:52

Wow, didn't even occur to me that Louis may be mis-pronounced...
That's interesting about Archie, I live in Scotland and I would say it's still fairly uncommon here.

It does get mis-pronounced a lot.

elijahblue · 26/08/2008 17:04

Definitely Louis David. Archie will date.

LouMacca · 26/08/2008 17:04

LOVE Archie (only know of one). Sorry not keen on Louis (know of at least four).

HonoriaGlossop · 26/08/2008 17:10

Agree that Louis David is a lovely name - has class. Agree Archie will be very much 'of a time'. And it's not a full name.

Hopefully you won't get many people misunderstanding it; If I see Louis I think Lou-ee not Lewis.

Lovely name.

LunarSea · 26/08/2008 17:11

Both pretty popular around here. Two Archie's in ds1's class, along with a Louis, a Lewis, a Luke, a Lucas and a Luca!

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 26/08/2008 17:14

I have both.

Louis is more common than Archie ime. When we chose the name Archie it was unheard of, then there was that blasted Monarch in the sodding Glen and it became popular (Balamory too )

People call my Louis all sorts of variations. Really you would think it was easy to get right wouldn't you!

pagwatch · 26/08/2008 17:15

ooh jimjam
we both have louis'

ltrue · 26/08/2008 17:20

Thanks ladies, you've given me some food for thought..
My dh is already addressing my bump as Louis, so I suspect it may be a fait accompli anyway! smile

2point4kids · 26/08/2008 17:21

Definitely Louis

MadBadandDangeroustoKnow · 26/08/2008 17:40

Lovely names but quite a few of them in this neck of the woods.

pointydog · 26/08/2008 17:41

Louis

Communion · 26/08/2008 21:26

Louis is lovely.

You may get an occasional misprounciatoin from poele you don't know, but I don't think that should be enough to put you off.

yogabird · 26/08/2008 21:37

i love Archie

dinkymum · 26/08/2008 21:39

Louis

Wezzle · 26/08/2008 21:52

Love them both

If I had to choose I'd go for Louis

berolina · 26/08/2008 21:57

Louis in particular is lovely, really lovely.

AbbeyA · 26/08/2008 21:57

I always think Archibald because I think this is where it must have come from originally.
I prefer Louis but think I would rather have Lewis.

ReneeB · 26/08/2008 21:57

Archie, still different enough not to be too common, but not to unusual as to outdate... if that makes sense!!

love archie/archer basically!! in my list of boys names!
