Could I? Should I?

And would it be in any way likely to offend our Catholic priest?

I mostly like it because of Clerks
is that more or less pretentious?

VictorianSqualor · 26/08/2008 18:16

LOL Franny, why not go the whole hog and have silent bob?

As I posted in the other thread, I love it as my gorgeous nephew is a Dante. He has an Italian heritage and surname and lives in the NYC area though. Dante in Clerks was from New Jersey and I grew up in New Jersey knowing an adorable Dante or two. So maybe it's not so pretentious there.

JessJess3908 · 26/08/2008 18:22

I do live in a very posh area, perhaps I am trying to keep up with the neighbours. Other pretentious names i have come up with so far include Rufus and Augustus.

Think DP may have suggested Dante because of Clerks... I was worried it sounded a bit chavvy.

Rufus is fab

I love Rufus too, there is a race on between me and MiL, whether she gets a new dog or I get a new baby boy first

My ds has Dante as his middle name - but he does have an Italian dad. I was worried about it being too Italian - but it just worked so we kept it. In Italian it is pronounced DAN tey, not Don-tey. Rufus Dante - sounds great to me! Rufus is a lovely name. Augustus is too emperor like. I had to quickly move my dh away from the name Cesare (Caeser in Italian) for that very reason. Having said all of this, I am 9.4 weeks pg with #2 and don't have a clue about names for it.

JessJess3908 · 27/08/2008 11:57

Tantik - 9.4? Pah - I'm 39.2! Is it wrong to hope for a girl just because i'd know what to call her?

DP didn't go for Rufus... I still love the sound of Dante but I think it clashes too much with DP's surname.

It is difficult to find anything remotely uncommon to call your son when both you and DP are of 100% English origin - we haven't even got a bit of cornish to liven things up. Perhaps i should get going on a family tree and try to discover some more interesting relatives...

JessJess, I quite like Stanley. And Horatio. (Thinking about important Englishmen for you.)
