for those who think Dante is a made up name

ByTheSea · 24/08/2008 11:19

My lovely nephew (in US) is a Dante. He has an Italian surname as BIL is of Italian heritage. I also went to school (again in US) with a Dante, who was really adorable and everyone had a crush on him.

and even more poncetastic

why not go for Gabriel instead?

random thought: is Donard a variant of Dante? I know an (adult) Donard and rather like it

Use it as a nn for Donald. Much cooler and classier.

Danté or Donte well........... there nmsaa honey.

Donato, meaning 'gift' with nn Dante or Donte as a nn makes me wince less. Dante on a birth cert makes me shudder.

next thing we'll have 'I love Bede but it is a bit modern and chavvy?'

Donald is nice. DS's middle name (mind you my family hate it)

EffiePerine · 24/08/2008 11:24

hang on it ISN'T DS's middle name . That's Duncan. Blame pg brain

PookiePodgeandTubs · 24/08/2008 11:33

Duncan, Donald. Now these are totally fantastic names. I also like Victor and Bruce. I shouldn't really be on a thread about a name like Danté. But I haven't been too rude I hope. Fairly dip.

EffiePerine · 24/08/2008 11:40

see I love Victor. Dh refuses

we might sneak in Donald, even though it would confuse me even more

EffiePerine · 24/08/2008 11:44

the idea of Donte being around since the 70s has cheered me right up

think were gonna use Dante then we can call him Dan.
Effie Donte is a real name. We don't all like poncey names so you shouldn't judge and call folks illiterate.
Donte is a variant of Dante.

Erm, I think Dante is by far the best. Nice to have an august chunk of literary heritage behind a name.

But littlemiss - are you pronouncing Dante
DAN, rhyming with PLAN? I think that's where the confusion is arising. It's normally pronounced DON. So actually spelling it Donte would be like spelling Hermione 'Hermyanee'. It is up to you, of course.
