I'm thinking about this name, and wanted some general opinions please.

Reminds me of the woman in the Golden Girls. Which is one of the reasons dh didn't want me to call dd Sophia, although I love the name.

Clearly 80s TV has ruined this for me.

JuneBugJen · 22/08/2008 13:28

Me too Pinkjenny! Must be a jen think to watch GG. Really like the name Sophia but she was too much like a small crab apple on legs and Dorothy was a big he/she.

Pinkjenny · 22/08/2008 13:32

ROFL

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/08/2008 13:43

Was on our shortlist if we'd been having another girl, so like it.

hw2004 · 22/08/2008 17:29

My great aunt was Dorothy but got called Dodo her whole life - not at all sure about that one.

slayerette · 22/08/2008 17:31

Saw the question and instantly thought 'friend of...' She might not thank you for it!

pointydog · 22/08/2008 17:35

I dislike it a lot

edam · 22/08/2008 17:39

Old lady names like Ivy are coming back, so why not Dorothy? I think it's a very pretty name. (And it was my grandmother's name so I like it even more.)

Mummyfor3 · 22/08/2008 17:39

MIL's name, so nooooo, imo, sorry .

fatzak · 22/08/2008 17:40

It's my Mum's name. I thought about some variation of it if we had a girl but only came up with Thea or Dorrie. Dora is nice but just too easy to follow with The Explorer (and I'm 37 not 5!!!!) Dot is awful but I suppose Dotty could be sweet on a little girl... (could it...?)

Like the name, but wouldn't on account of 'friend of...', not great baggage for her to grow up with, not great for her friends.

Not that there's anything wrong with that... naturally.

Bombus · 22/08/2008 19:20

Another variation is Theodora - Thea for short.

(thought I'd just posted this but hasn't appeared so apologies if it comes up twice).

CaptainFabioHiltsTheCoolerCat · 22/08/2008 19:23

Lions and tigers and bears oh my!

Call her Thea.

Wouldn't really be my choice -I just think of Dot Cotton!

BreeVanderCampLGJ · 22/08/2008 23:21

I know a wonderful Dorothy, we are in deepest darkest Surrey.

She is the older woman for DS, she is a whole year ahead of him and sometimes it is lurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrve.

brimfull · 22/08/2008 23:23

not keen on it

jellybeans · 22/08/2008 23:44

I don't like it at all, sorry.

zazen · 23/08/2008 00:01

'There's no place like home' springs to mind.

I quite like Dorothea though.

Bombus · 23/08/2008 10:17

(I've got a Thea too Hatrick )

3andnomore · 23/08/2008 10:28
