Hello ladies

I quite fancy the name Bayard for a boy. I like it, DH likes it, but I fear it will be a name met with raised eyebrows.

Thoughts?

I like it can be abbreviated to 'Bay'.

Multinational drugs conglomerate.

TheProvincialLady · 21/08/2008 17:37

Dreadful.

Is there ever going to be a name thread where I don't want to shake the parent by the shoulders shouting "It is a real live child not a bleeding cheap novel"?

(That was not aimed at you specifically BTW)

Shitehawk · 21/08/2008 17:43

Awful. Sorry.

Weegiemum · 21/08/2008 18:19

It put me in mind of 'Bare' or ever 'Bare-arse' - so I would say no!

lottiejenkins · 21/08/2008 18:58

I know a Bayard.......... hes the same age as me i think 39ish!

travellingwilbury · 21/08/2008 19:04

I don't see the point if you are going to shorten it to Bay

Just call it Bay

piratecat · 21/08/2008 19:05

it's a Cove near Dartmouth, south Devon.

bikerunski · 21/08/2008 21:09

A lot like barnyard!

Heated · 21/08/2008 21:11

Sounds like Wellard the dog, mournful sniff.

preggersplayspop · 21/08/2008 21:14

I was thinking Wellard too!

I like Bay though.

TheFifthApe · 21/08/2008 21:16

zippitippitoes · 21/08/2008 21:18

Lauriefairycake · 21/08/2008 21:19

do you have a kiln?

do you make your own clothes out of wheat?

if not, no Bayard or Bay

v,v bad

janeite · 21/08/2008 21:20

Bay and Bayard both absolutely awful sorry, although of course that is just my own opinion and you should call him what you choose.

Clary · 21/08/2008 21:22

Bayard yes St George's horse in a book DS2 was reading to me.

Neither of us knew how to pronounce it tho which is not a Good Sign in a name imho (more me not knowing than DS2 IYSWIM)

Bay, yes Kirtie Allsop's choice, she's v cool.

What sort of thing is DS1's name mum2r? Do theyneed to go in yr view?

Heated · 21/08/2008 21:22

I think Bay is the name of Kirstie Allsopp's son. Still ntmt though.

BroccoliSpears · 21/08/2008 21:23

I went to school with a Bayard.

QuintessentialShadows · 21/08/2008 21:25

It reminds me of Fort Boyard, that horribly silly show Melinda Messenger was hosting yeeeears ago...

me not like.

Quattrocento · 21/08/2008 21:32

I think it's hilarious. Not quite as funny as "Bear" which is my all time favourite daft sugggestion, but it's nearly up there.

Are you giving birth to a horse?

pagwatch · 21/08/2008 21:33

nay

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 21/08/2008 21:34

I knew a Bayard. I went out with his brother

(am wondering if it was the same Bayard that broccolispears knew...)

Quattrocento · 21/08/2008 21:36

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayard

If you are going to name your son after a horse, why not Shergar? Or Red Rum?

Swedes · 21/08/2008 21:37

neigh neigh

reginaphilangy · 21/08/2008 22:20

Not good.
