Not on my main list but I'd love honest opinions.

No it was too popular in the 1970's. Not due a revival for another 20 years. Very American too.

piratecat · 20/08/2008 12:33

i like it, but i prefer the name Marissa, i think it's prettier.

CompletelyDotty · 20/08/2008 12:41

Eddas · 20/08/2008 12:43

I love it.

One of my best friends has that name and I've always loved it.

I don't know any others

hana · 20/08/2008 12:49

jellybeans · 20/08/2008 13:04

It's a really pretty name - not common either, I know one aged 20 & one who is about 50 (but her mother is American)

janeite · 20/08/2008 22:39

Gorgeous. Yes, it means honey bee. I went to school with a Melissa who was lovely; mad - but lovely!

i like lissie as a shortening.

sandcastles · 21/08/2008 05:02

Dd 5 is a Melissa.

Love the name, had it chosen before she was even conceived!

We liked it because it isn't a common name at the moment!

sandcastles · 21/08/2008 05:03

nappy, dd is Lissy to my sister. Doesn't suit my dd tho, I don't think!

nappyaddict · 21/08/2008 09:18

ah that's a shame i think lissa/lissy is very pretty. melissa is still lovely in it's own right though.

melissa is a lovely name - heroine of a book by Lawrence Durrell, a fragile beauty. I love it!

melissa72 · 22/08/2008 15:24

well as a true Melissa what can I say you have great taste!!! I loved being called Melissa when at school and still like it now, hate the shortened Mel I get (off male work mates mainly) my real mates shorten to melis and hubby calls me Lissa.

It means Honey Bee and I'm a Scorpio so it suits me..... x

CuckooClockWorkShy · 22/08/2008 20:32

HOrrible. Very hissy. I like Melanie though.

Helsbels4 · 22/08/2008 20:36

My neice is a Melissa and she's 21. We usually call her Mels or Mel but my DS used to call her Lissa. I didn't like it when she was born but it has grown on me over the years! I used to like Melody!

mamalovesmojitos · 22/08/2008 21:20

love it. gorgeous.

helsbels4 i nearly called dd melody but my cousin's dog has the same name so put me off!

Izzybel · 22/08/2008 21:37

Used to know a Melissa at college. She was known as Milly.
Think it's nice. you don't hear of many babies called Melissa. Lissy or Lissa is really cute!

MannyMoeAndJack · 22/08/2008 22:28

Really like this name - although I understand that it was used as a boys' name in the US between 1968 and 1985:

I only know one Melissa and she is a lovely person, very pretty, and extremely successful . Wasn't on my radar when I had DD but would definitely have it on my list now.
