Christabel? Or Felicity or Rosamund?

Please humour me through the two week wait.

We've had a longstanding plan to call a DD Felicity, but it alliterates with DS's name, so I don't know if I can get away with it. Can you have Philip and Felicity?

Now my mind is wandering to Christabel, or Rosamund. Opinions?

I also love Hermione but Harry Potter has done for that one.

Any other suggestions gladly received.

* note to anyone who knows me IRL * DH and I are fairly defensive and secretive about names, so just don't let on you've seen this.

Felicity is getting very trendy though, isn't it? (Mind you, so is Christabel!). Had them both on my list four years ago and have really seen them get more popular. Depends if you want an uncommon name or not. Fear the beaches of North Norfolk will be full of Joules-clad Felicities in a few years' time!
This may not bother you at all, of course.

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/08/2008 09:07

msdemeanor - there were 196 Felicities in 2007, making it the 236th most popular name. Whilst that is an increase on the previous year, it hardly makes it a popular choice does it?!

MrsJohnCusack · 20/08/2008 10:34

I like Felicity
friend has baby called Christabel, quite like it
Rosalind MUCH nicer than Rosamund IMO

LaDiDaDi · 20/08/2008 10:36

I don't like Christabel at all, too too girly for me.

Rosamund and Felicilty are much nicer imo.

allbungedup · 20/08/2008 10:38

Rosamund ( lovely)
or Felicity ( also like it)

not keen on Christabel

QuintessentialShadows · 20/08/2008 10:41

Somebody around my parts have shortened Christabel to Christel.
How about plain and simple, Christine, or Kirsten?

ForeverOptimistic · 20/08/2008 12:58

Cantsleepwontsleep - Where do you find out those statistics? I can only ever manage to find stats for the top 100

3amigos · 20/08/2008 13:04

Oh yes genevieve pretty name. Do love felicity. Jenna also lovely name?

msdemeanor · 20/08/2008 14:41

Yes, but it is on the up and in five years there will be quite a lot of them...and I suspect they will be born to the kind of people you know - ie middle class and slightly poncey/bunty cupcake
(I include myself in that category btw - hence the reference to the North Norfolk beaches, where last month I heard a blonde mother in matelot stripes call 'Hector! Hugo! Henry!' and three blonde boys emerged from the dunes wearing Boden and carrying wooden swords)

mrsgboring · 20/08/2008 15:34

I have never been called "bunty cupcake" before. Unfortunately, if you'd seen my unkempt, saggy and badly dressed appearance you would probably take it back.

QS, I don't really like "plain and simple" though I have to admit I think Christabel is really a bit too frilly for us to get away with.

Rosamund and Christabel are both really gloriously fabulous

Felicity is far too hissy. WHAT do you shorten it too?? Flick or Fliss? YUCK! I like the meaning though, that it comes from happiness. I like Felix for a boy. But the sound Felicity is unattractive in my opinion.

Rosa or Christa are beautiful too. Torn between Rosamund and Christabel. They are both beautiful but strong. Feminine but not frilly.

Weegiemum · 20/08/2008 19:46

There's also Hillary/Hilary, which means cheerful/happy?

MrsMills · 20/08/2008 19:51

Christabel - no no no for many reasons

Felicity - Flip and Flic but I kind of like that

Rosamund - great name, my favourite from your list.

AbbeyA · 21/08/2008 08:36

Love Rosamund-hate Christabel.
No strong feelings either way on Felicity, except that I don't like the shortened forms.

hw2004 · 21/08/2008 19:26

Not sure about Christabel but think it's because my sister had a doll she called that when she was little. Mine was called Jill which obviously showed my lack of imagination

I really like Rosamund (or Rosalind for that matter). Love Hermione but I agree with the Harry Potter thing.

notsoslimnow · 21/08/2008 19:35

felicity is lovely! christabel reminds me of a perfume?? LOVE FELICITY AND PHILIP TOO.x

ilovemydog · 21/08/2008 19:37

3andnomore · 23/08/2008 22:45

only like Felicity of your list, sorry...but think Phillip and Felicity sounds good together anyway...

other classic, mybe not so common girlsnames that spring to mind

Ivy
Catherine
Sophia
Cassandra
Magdalena

bluefox · 23/08/2008 22:57

The only Felicity I know gets shortened to Phill.

frazzledoldbag34 · 25/08/2008 21:59

Are there really loads of Christabels about? I don't know any. Ditto Felicities - don't know any either.
Adore Hermione - again don't know any tho. They're all being called Tilly, Ruby, Ava, Poppy and Evie round here at the mo.
Not keen on Rosalind / Rosamund. Sound a bit dreary to me although I love Rose and Rosie.
