Someone on MN mentioned having a daughter called Arden, I love it! She said it means passionate (as in ardent). We had decided to call our dd Arden. HOWEVER a well meaning friend hs told me that it's a boys name!

Please tell me what you think.

Just thinking of the name, Arden... to me says DD, not DS.

I haven't ever heard the name before, so no previous connections, and just my opinion...

singyswife · 17/08/2008 21:04

Sounds girly to me. I love it by the way.

dizzydixies · 17/08/2008 21:05

have heard it as a suggestion for both boy and girl along with

Arben and Auden which are also lovely

does it really matter though, we've just given dd3 a name more commonly thought of as a boys name and she's already made it her own

LynetteScavo · 17/08/2008 21:06

Girls name (English) meaning valley of the eagle.

missbloom · 17/08/2008 21:06

Great name i reckon,id say it was girls name.

SilkCutMama · 17/08/2008 21:07

Elizabeth Arden - sounds girlish to me

missbloom · 17/08/2008 21:08

Sounds feminine so wouldnt give it to boy anyway!

cheesychips · 17/08/2008 21:08

Thank you thank you. Whilst I did want genuine and honest opinions I love it so much and really want to use it.

thisisyesterday · 17/08/2008 21:11

anither saying it's unisex
and another saying it's a girls name

spottyshoes · 17/08/2008 21:12

Definately girl to me. Nice

thisisyesterday · 17/08/2008 21:13

ok giving up now but found 3 more saying it's unisex

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 17/08/2008 21:19

isnt the one from father ted called arden o'hanlon or is he ardon?

LongLiveCuckoo · 17/08/2008 21:26

He is Ardal, which is much more masculine imo.

Arden sounds kind of unisexy but I would never give a boy a unisex name which is terribly sexist of me, so, I would hope it is for a girl? Is that right?

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 17/08/2008 21:27

Ardel thats it, thanks

SoupDragon · 17/08/2008 21:34

Sounds like Hard on.

naturalblonde · 17/08/2008 21:35

It's a boys' name in a Virginia Andrews book - my sweet audrina i think

bamboostalks · 17/08/2008 21:37

There used to be an Arden in Dallas, she was a small character.Do you remember JR's secretary was called Sly? How weird!!

Mung · 17/08/2008 21:39

I loved it and it was top of our list for boys names. My big concern about it was that it sounds like hard on (as Soupdragon says). I think now that DD was lucky to be a girl and not a boy.

cheesychips · 18/08/2008 01:22

General consensus seems to be 'sounds better on a girl' and I STILL love it, so Arden it is. I agree with cuckoo that unisex sits better with a girl, (Obviously I'm sexist too - when it works in my favour.)

Thanks for your opinions everyone, and for all your research 'Yesterday'
