God I have never seen so many shite name threads in my life.

What happened to calling children names which are suitable from birth through to adulthood?

I mean come on, get a grip.

Poor children

Golden rule:

Name your children- and think how it would sound if they where prime minister

Don't see why we shouldn't have a Molly or Wendy for PM, we've had a Maggie and a Tony after all.

cthea · 14/08/2008 12:20

Might have a Dave too...

Dragonbutter · 14/08/2008 12:30

hear hear hatrick.

I don't know why some people get their knickers in a twist about what others choose to name their children.

there are names i like and names i don't and if asked i will give an opinion on baby names threads. but i wouldn't think that naming a child something unusual would make them less capable as adults.

I think that you are more likely to canvass opinion on a name that is not commonly used, that is why you will see more names that you perceive as odd on here. My first DS has a very common name that is used in both Muslim and Christian, I didn't bother to get opinions from Mumsnet for that.

It's not so much the fact that you want an opinion on liking or disliking a name but asking people brings out some things that you did not realise yourself. Such as finding out Tarun is thought of as a more girly name, interesting to know as I've gone off that name.

My Mum is Jenny and she's in her sixties and was a barrister (serious enough prefession for you). Yes, she is Jenny short for Jennifer, but has NEVER EVER used Jennifer. Only on her pqssport and driving licence etc. Nobody actually calls it her, even when she was at work. Her nickname was actually PowerJen!

Boulders · 14/08/2008 12:53

Personally I think that maybe one day there will be a PM with a Indian/African/Islamic name. Why not?

I wonder if Barrack Obama's mother was warned that her son would never get a chance to be USA president with the name Barrack .

Pinkjenny · 14/08/2008 12:54

My name is Jenny (not Jennifer) and my mum is called Wendy!!!!

belgo · 14/08/2008 12:56

Boulders - and nearly the same goes for Condoleeza Rice!!

muggglewump · 14/08/2008 12:58

I'm a Jenny although I prefer Jen.
If I ever becaome PM I promise to use Jennifer

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 14/08/2008 13:02

I named my daughter what I liked, ignored everybody elses opinion - afterall, if I spent my life listening to other peoples opinions, I probably would not be happy.
