So what do you think of Pixie? My boss has just had her first bub and instantly loved this name (as did i )

Her OH had to be convinced but she held out and little Pixie is now 3 weeks old and just gorgeous.

There were a few raised eyebrows at work tho, but i'm glad she stuck to her guns

It's cute. But not for ever. I think your boss would have been a lot smarter to have put Penelope Beatrix (nn Pixie) on the birth cert.

JMHO

My mum had a friend called Pixie who was a gin-drinking, chain smoking 70 year old. We all thought her name was hilarious (luckily she had a great sense of humour). To make matters worse she had a SIL called Trixie.

CuckooChocolateOrange · 15/08/2008 17:58

It starts to sound good again when you edge towards 70. It's at 45 that it would be hard to pull off.

My aunt Florence was always known as Bosh. Weird. From cradle to grave she was Bosh, with a lovely name like Florence on her bc. Madness!

georgiemum · 15/08/2008 17:59

Can you imagine her at 60 saying 'my name is Pixie'? As a nickname it is gorgeous but as a real name I am not so sure. Maybe she will end up using her middle name.

CuckooChocolateOrange · 15/08/2008 18:01

She must have a very obliging doormat Husband.

georgiemum · 15/08/2008 19:58

'Doormat'? Now there's a name...

Spidermama · 15/08/2008 20:00

I like it but I think it'll be unfortunate if she turns out to be a large and curvy lass.

FeelinBroody · 16/08/2008 11:37

I like it, I think it's a great name. If I ever convinced my OH that it was an ok name to use when if/hopefully when we have a daughter, I'd also choose a more normal middle name so she could choose to use that instead if she wished when she was older.

Pendulum · 16/08/2008 11:44

It's one of DD's many nicknames and it is cute for a 4- year old. But as a given name.... can you imagine meeting a 4- year old woman at work who was called Pixie?

Pendulum · 16/08/2008 11:45

sorry- that should obviously be a 40 year old woman

rowingboat · 16/08/2008 18:50

I love it, I'm sure she will carry it off. Pixie-boo even better.
Not sure about Doormat though?

hazeyjane · 16/08/2008 19:20

My old landlady (in her 60's) was called Pixie Greathead, which would have been a fantastic Bond girl name. She was quite eccentric and could carry it off.

I think sometimes we grow into our names. If you give her a more traditional middle name, she could change it to that when she's older, if she really hates it.

3andnomore · 16/08/2008 22:31

Pixie could be a beautyful Petname...well, I should say name for a pet...but for a child...don't like it for a little Baby at all, sorry!

popsycal · 16/08/2008 22:37

dh's uncle has a very ordinary name but was nicknamed 'Tots'

and as a grown man in his 50s, he is known as Tots by everyone.....

nappyaddict · 16/08/2008 22:39

the thing is trixie and dixie are proper names. pixie is just not a name. i'm sorry but it isn't.

rowingboat · 17/08/2008 19:13

Pixie is a name, there is a baby called Pixie, and half a dozen seventy year olds with chain smoking habits, all called Pixie. So it's a name by most definitions.
Popsycal - I love that Tots story, it sounds like the name of an old man in a boxing gym.

ethanchristoper · 17/08/2008 23:15

dear god i hope she never wants to become a prime minister or a surgeon or something!

Absolutely, agree Hatrick. I think it's about time we had a Prime Minister called Pixie.
I doubt there are many surgeons with top ten names, and lots with non-white Anglo Saxon names, as you say, nobody is silly enough to object to surgery on those grounds.

UniversallyChallenged · 17/08/2008 23:40

Pixie Greathead LOL!!! Hazyjane that's a fab name!

Love the name Pixie myself
