Wilfred?

I quite like the name Wilfred but I just emailed it to my DP and he was absolutely AGHAST.. I honestly don't think its that old/strange/bully-magnetising etc but then I'm not British..
Is it really so awful? Its the first name of your (second) greatest war poet..

I love old-fashioned names but Wilfred is a step too far in my book ...

I totally dislike it...to me it's in teh same category as Manfred and Guenther (shudder)

A friend of mine called her son Wilfred 3 years ago. I was when she told me, thought it was awful, it put me in mind of the kid in the Beano that peers at the world over his jumper.

But you know what, people get used to things really quickly. Nowadays 'Wilfred' to me is a little boy w. brown curls and a Thomas the Tank engine obsession. And I quite like it.

But then I am not keen on all old man/old lady names which suddenly seem very fashionable.

I'd worry cos (1) old man names are not cool IMO and (2) old man names are going to date very quickly.

I met a baby called Wilf with very cool parents and he was a great little bloke so it can work. I like Stan too. Back to to trenches boys!

Not just any old-mannish, but Steptoe senior is what springs to my mind. If you're not British you may not understand this, but trust me its not good.

I love Wilfred so much. I know i"m not having any more babies so i had to use the name for dds guinea pig instead, he's Wilfie. But would be even better on an actual human baby. It's lovely. Met a little boy called Wilf and he was very cool.

And showing my age but this is the first person I thought of when I saw "Wilfred".
