You can use it as a first name. That's all. Thank you.

well my middle name is miorbhuil growing up i longed to have anne, jane, elizabeth or louise like all my friends did.

pgwithnumber3 · 09/08/2008 13:12

That certainly is unusual giraffe, how do you pronounce it?

I think most children who are given "unusual" names strive to be blend into the background at a young age but I can imagine it is nice when you get older to be a bit different. Very hard to strike a balance between popular and off the wall though. Grace was not as common a name 6 years ago when we chose it, it was number 20 in the Charts but has rocketed up since then. Hence there are not tonnes of them in DD's school. I hear it more on toddlers.

branflake81 · 09/08/2008 13:16

My middle name is Elizabeth (child of the 80's) along with half of my class. The other half were all Louises.

MrsJohnCusack · 09/08/2008 13:16

DD's is Tui (Maori name - actually someone might have one I suppose)
and DS's is Marlow (again someone might have it, but seems unlikely. is after the hero of Heart of Darkness)

pgwithnumber3 · 09/08/2008 13:18

They are both lovely names, especially love Marlow. How it Tui pronounced?

giraffescantdancethetango · 09/08/2008 13:20

meer-vul.

MrsJohnCusack · 09/08/2008 13:20

two-ee

both syllables are equal. in fact just like saying 2E really

InTheDollshouse · 09/08/2008 13:27

Ooh, I know a toddler called Tui.

LaVieEnRose · 09/08/2008 13:31

Nicole Kidman's baby girl is called Sunday Rose. I just hear Sunday Roast She didn't think that one through did she?!

pgwithnumber3 · 09/08/2008 14:45

My DH also said that re Sunday Rose/Sunday Roast! Don't think they do Sunday Roast in Australia though? She probably wouldn't have given it a second thought!

Raahh · 09/08/2008 16:43

i think flower names are always going to be popular, along with `rose, i know a few Lilys, Daisys, and poppys. .Middle names are often a chance to use something more personal, a family name etc, but that you don't want to use necessarily for a first name.

As well as my middle name being Elizabeth, it is also DDs- and the bonus is it is my MILs mn too (but not why i chose it), so she was chuffed.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/08/2008 21:04

MrsJohnCusack - I would wager nobody on mumsnet had the same middle name for their child as my little girl does I agree middle names are a chance to be outrageous (within reason!)

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 09/08/2008 21:07

And, out of interest... is the Rose phenonomen due to Kate Winselet in Titanic?

I did like Poppy, but my MIL has a dog called Poppy. In fact, family animals have wiped out a few names for any children I have - no Nikki, Jack, Kai, Jessie, Poppy, Bonnie, Sascha, Jewle or Elvis for me, oh no!

pgwithnumber3 · 09/08/2008 22:30

Elf, DH's friend is a dog trainer and owns around 15 dogs, every name I like for DC3 has already been taken by one of his hounds!

Stars22 · 17/08/2008 15:05

My sister born in 1988 is Laura-Rose i dont no anyone else that age with the middle name Rose. When i was at school every other girl had the middle name Louise. I was born in 1985 my middle name is Eleanor.

pagwatch · 17/08/2008 15:53

my daughter is a .. rose.
But it is her middle name and not hyphenated so most people don't know what her middle name is, and her big brother chose it, and my darling departed dad loved it. And I don't give a toss what others think.

nappyaddict · 17/08/2008 16:02

olivia too

XantheP · 21/08/2008 11:34

Elf, I know of a baby girl with the middle name Boo - unless it is your little girl I am thinking of and I know you in real life?! Does the first name begin with K?

ConstanceWearing · 21/08/2008 11:37

Sunday Roast pmsl.

I'll get the gravy.

XantheP · 21/08/2008 11:38

aah, ignore me Elf - just seen your profile (should have checked first ) and I do not know you in real life.

Flier · 21/08/2008 11:39

dd was born at home and we live at a house with the name rose, so we thought it fitting she should have it as a name, although thenwe discovered that another 2 girls in the area born around the same time also had it as a middle name!

Anchovy · 21/08/2008 11:44

I was born in 1964 and I believe there was actually a law that said you had to have Clare as a middle name. Maybe it was pre-printed on birth registration forms or something.

I once went on holiday with three mates and three of the four of us had Clare as a middle name. We were taken to one side and given a hard time by the Turkish immigration officials who, having established we were not related, thought there was something odd going on which they couldn't quite work out.

CrushWithEyeliner · 21/08/2008 11:46

I have an Annie Rose (not hyphenated though!) It just...goes. It is such a pretty name either way, and feminine without being twee...
