So what do you think of Oscar? Which spelling Oscar or Oskar?

How about it Oscar Elliot Anchorsholme? Anchorsholme is the surname!

My BF has a cat called Oscar

frisbyrat · 08/08/2008 17:59

My neighbours had cats called Oscar and Felix!

(a.k.a. the odd couple)

I've got an Oscar and I love the name. He is 8. My mother told me recently that she still dislikes it which is why she calls him Oscie! His uncle recently started calling him Oz and he put him firmly in his place and told him in no uncertain terms his name was Oscar. Oscar's best friend is called Victor , but that sounds nice in French, not sure about it in English though.

my catfish was called Oscar.

2.5 yr old ds is Dylan James and now apparently there is a Dylan James on Corrie. Or is it Emmerdale? Anyway, v. annoying!

What odd couple?

Did you see that teletubbies episode with the boys called Oscar and Felix? Both great names!

Elasticwoman · 08/08/2008 20:57

My Uncle Fred was terribly embarrassed by his middle name which was Felix. I'd be more embarrassed about the Fred, myself.

lynette, are you for real? i will give you the benefit of the doubt...but christ.

i have an oscar. couldnt care less how common/popular it becomes. i didnt name my child to be different. i chose it cos i liked it. and still do. i had a very uncommon name as a child and liked it. my sister was one of 7 in her class with her name, she liked it too. our parents chose the names, and you know what, we respected it.

it irks me sooo much people being possesive about names.

the world does not revolve around you or your lo. get over it.

LynetteScavo · 08/08/2008 22:42

roobee, are you for real?

You obviously haven't come across me much on Mumsnet before.

If I was going to be possesive about names, I wouldn't have given DS1 teh number 2 most popular boys name that year.

Please don't give me the benefit of the doubt.

Pleased be irked.

Odd woman

These baby name theads.....nothing but trouble I tell ya!

Slickbird · 08/08/2008 22:58

I like Elliot better. I think it sounds better with the last name. I would consider Elliot for this baby if a boy (3rd prg) but I already have an Eilidh (Gaelic) and it's too similiar. (Pronounced Ay-lee)

Names tho, everyone always gets used to them whatever their called. Go with what you feel.

teddymummy · 08/08/2008 23:01

I have an Oscar- he's a twin with Jack. Both strong names, a bit cheeky and suits every stage of their life. If you like it then go for it- there are lots of them cropping up now.

mylovelymonster · 08/08/2008 23:06

Oscar - great. Loads of character and a bit cheeky. Definitely no shrinking violet.

Oscar Elliot bit longwinded IMPO, and last name quite intricate - feel middle name needs to be simpler for overall balance

Jacblue · 09/08/2008 10:42

I've always liked my name, but when little hated the fact that I could never have things ffom shops (eg cups) with my name on as not only was it not a common name at the time, my parents also decided to spell it the boy's way, which still isn't around on merchandise now.

Made sure that my dd and ds had names that were popular enough for this.

Just something that was important for me...
