I think Billy-Joe is cool. ;)

Overmydeadbody · 04/08/2008 17:26

Billy-Bob?

Billy-Jean?

HumphreyPinCushion · 04/08/2008 17:27

it would be silly to say goats and gruff wouldn't it?

MrsTicklemouse · 04/08/2008 17:30

i like billy-joe too

i think the seond name needs to be one syllable

tweeni · 04/08/2008 17:39

Wouldn't the initials BJ be a bad idea?

Billy-Bob ... not sure about that.

Billy Ray Cyrus see the mullet
Even he isn't hyphenated

tweeni · 04/08/2008 19:07

So he was around at a time when bad hair was the fashion. Any other reason why it would be a bad idea to have the same name as him?

Billy-Elliot (?)

pointydog · 04/08/2008 19:16

Bill-y-Geraint

SlapAndTickle · 04/08/2008 19:16

billy whizz - is slang for speed/amphetimines
billy elliott - getting get made fun of at school
billy ray - just don't go there!

billy-joe was the name of that girl that were clubbed to death (alledgedly) by her foster dad, Sean someone in the 90's

billy-bob and billy-jean - just say NO

In fact I can't think of one good reason to want this chavvy

wheresthehamster · 04/08/2008 19:21

Yes I think you have to give him the choice.

Name him William Donald or William Edward etc then he can be known as Billy-Don or Billy-Ned. (If you must )

tweeni · 04/08/2008 19:26

would never do billy-elliot. i don't get what's wrong with billy-ray though. it would be william-????? on his birth certificate.

Billy-Willy?
Billy-Bong?

Sorry, can't think of anything sensible.

But then I don't think Billy-hyphenated something is particularly sensible! But obviously it's up to you!!!

tweeni · 04/08/2008 19:27

I didn't realise Billy was such a disliked name.

OP posts:
Twinkie1 · 04/08/2008 19:29

It just sounds a bit chavvy especially hyphenated with something!

moondog · 04/08/2008 19:31

Don't do the hyphenated thing Tweeni.
Twillhave teachers guffawing in classrooms for years to come.
Unless of course you live in Alabama?
Doyou?

LaDiDaDi · 04/08/2008 19:31

I think that Billy alone is fine (although I do prefer William) but Billy-something sounds awful.

tweeni · 04/08/2008 19:38

I don't really care about what teachers gossip about in the staffroom. It's a family tradition to have hyphenated names. The other first name I like is Anton but not sure what would go well with it and I'm a bit worried it will sound like Ant and .....

OP posts:
pointydog · 04/08/2008 19:46

A family tradition? How far back? I'm finding it hard to think of hyphenated boys' names

frazzledoldbag34 · 04/08/2008 20:55

Actually, tweeni I don't think Billy in itself is a disliked name at all. I for one quite like it.
But I guess if you feel you must do something hyphenated for family reasons Billy-Ray or Billy-Bob are the best options. They trip off the tongue quite easily ( I guess). More so than things like Billy-Martin and Billy Gareth.

Although what about starting a NEW family tradition of not hyphenating names?
Just a thought....
