Would no doubt end up Sam or Ed / Eddie.

What to you think?

Love the name, Samuel or Sam.

belgo · 01/08/2008 14:07

Edward. Ed/Eddie is great. Samual is nice, but Sam is a bit wishy/washy.

Cies · 01/08/2008 14:14

Like both.

AbbeyA · 01/08/2008 14:14

I love them both but I would go for Samuel -I didn't have Edward because Ed, Eddie, Ned Ted etc are all dreadful and I didn't think it possible to insist on Edward, from everyone, at all times!

devonsmummy · 01/08/2008 14:24

edward
it's already decided as a middle name for yet to be conceived DS2........
You can get many more nicknames from Edward than samuel

OurHamsterisevil · 01/08/2008 14:36

I have a Samuel, DH's choice not mine. I would say go for Edward as it can be more interesting. Shortened to Ted or Teddy.

Oops just realised I've said the same as Devonsmummy

EffiePerine · 01/08/2008 14:37

I prefer Sam to Ed ( I just think Ed Balls, bleurgh), so Samuel. Edward is a good name though.

singersgirl · 01/08/2008 14:49

Prefer Edward. Don't like the 'mule' sounding bit of Samuel. But I'm a bit weird about sounds of names and very idiosyncratic (I don't like Harry, for example, because of the unpleasant meaning of the verb 'to harry').

cadelaide · 01/08/2008 14:50

Isn't Edward getting popular? I keep seeing it on name threads...

pooter · 01/08/2008 14:52

Edward definitely. I have a 14mo nephew called eddy - hes lovely and named after my late grandad whom people called Teddy. Can be informal or formal, lovely name belonging to lovely people!!

Bunch · 01/08/2008 14:52

Not Samuel. Know a Samuel who's really wet. I also have a tendancy to say Sa MULE.

MamaG · 01/08/2008 14:56

I love both names

Edward is DS's middle name (I like Ted, Ned)

I also like Samuel (Sam is great) but it really doesn't go with my surname so its out.

singersgirl · 01/08/2008 15:07

We know lots boys called Sam, Sammy, Samuel, Edward, Ed, Eddie, Ted, Teddy and Ned. I think they're all perfectly fine, but I just like some more than others.

I like both but I prefer Edward, there are fewer of them, and it suits an adult a tiny bit better, jmo.

lizinthesticks · 01/08/2008 15:32

Toss of a coin for me. Possibly Edward though as there are suddenly millions of Sams (though admittedly not Samuels - much prefer the full btw).

nickeldime · 01/08/2008 16:51

I prefer Samuel - it's becoming more popular while Edward has long been dipping in the popularity stakes:

jellybeans · 01/08/2008 17:22

Like Samuel, dislike Edward, too old fashioned.

clairebear88 · 01/08/2008 18:12

100% Samuel, i love it

bythepowerofgreyskull · 01/08/2008 18:15

Edward all the way if our surname didn't begin with T I would have called one of the boys it but couldn't get passed all the ET jokes.

olyoly · 01/08/2008 20:31

Edward is on my shortlist as well. It gets my vote! Samuel is nice, but seems quite popular.

REIDmylips · 01/08/2008 20:32

i love Samuel!

frazzledoldbag34 · 01/08/2008 21:06

Hulababy · 01/08/2008 21:17

I like both but prefer Edward. I like it shortned to Ned rather than Ed/Eddie. I do liek Samuel but not as keen on Sam.
