don't choose jane, or rose!!

I always think it's weird when people do that!

matildax · 28/07/2008 16:29

martha may was one of the characters in the grinch!!!!!

matildax · 28/07/2008 16:31

why beanie????? jane is a beautiful name in its own right, lovely as first name, but absolutely bugger all wrong with it being a middle name. nothing remotely wierd about it!!!

tortoiseSHELL · 28/07/2008 16:31

Dd's middle name is Ruth, (she has another biblical name as a first name) - that would work with Martha.

Hulababy · 28/07/2008 16:32

what is wrong with Rose?

hana · 28/07/2008 16:33

rose v common middle name I think

matildax · 28/07/2008 16:34

*weird i meant to type!!!

matildax · 28/07/2008 16:36

hula i love rose, maybe im terribly weird!!!

beanieb · 28/07/2008 16:39

there's nothing wrong with rose, but people always seem to suggest 'rose', 'jane' or 'louise' as a middle name to go with slightly quirkier names. Or even just plain names. Whenever anyone starts a thread like this I just know there will be several calls for rose or jane.

When I was in school half the class had Jane or Louise or rose as a midle name and there still seems to be this opinion that a first name with 2 or more syllables has to have a short second name with it.

But - it's personal choice I guess, it's just something I happen to dislike

matildax · 28/07/2008 16:46

good point beanie, so how about Martha Constance? or Martha Tallulah?
actually i really really like Martha Tallulah very very sweet!!! now all i need is a new baby girl!!! oh no, maybe not if you just read out her name in initials it would be mt.... empty!!!

matildax · 28/07/2008 16:49

no idea why i wrote Constance, i really dont like that name, unless shortened to connie, even then i do still think of cows!!!

Hulababy · 28/07/2008 16:51

But I think Martha needs an older, more simple/traditional name to go with it. Also think the one syllable thing works well too.

Of the suggestions here I still think Martha Rose is the one that sounds most lovely so far.

matildax · 28/07/2008 16:53

what about eve? Martha Eve Cliff. sounds quite nice or even evie

tortoiseSHELL · 28/07/2008 16:53

I think Rose and May/Mae are massively overused atm as middle names - every thread on here ends up with people suggesting those.

tortoiseSHELL · 28/07/2008 16:55

I like Martha Ruth (obviously as I suggested it ) and
Martha Eve (although 2 vowels together might clunk a bit)

What about Martha Dawn?
Martha Penelope
Martha Cecilia/Martha Cecily
Martha Kate/Martha Katharine

MonkeyMargot · 28/07/2008 17:06

I agree with Tortoise that there's an abundance of Rose/May/Mae's as middle names. I think 3 syllables sounds good with your short surname. How about:-
Martha Felicity Cliff
Martha Penelope Cliff
Martha Matilda Cliff
Martha Demelza Cliff
Martha Delilah Cliff
Martha Kerenza Cliff

run out now!

Hulababy · 28/07/2008 17:08

Martha Emily

nailpolish · 28/07/2008 17:09

why bother with middle names? i really dont see the point of them at all

MonkeyMargot · 28/07/2008 17:14

I haven't got a middle name, but always yearned for one as a child...I even ended up inventing one, and having a ring engraved with my 3 initials. (Sad, I know)
But for practical reasons, if you have a commonish surname, a middle name helps differentiate you and can avoid confusion etc..

just wanted to say that Martha is a lovely name and I like Martha Hope - very pretty

Blandmum · 28/07/2008 22:55

Martha May

frazzledoldbag34 · 30/07/2008 19:25

Why don't you use your name, middle name or maiden name.....if it goes with Martha?

hw2004 · 30/07/2008 20:05

I think Martha Elizabeth Cliff is lovely. I think it needs a longer name to flow properly with your surname. I def wouldn't go for Matilda or Tallulah...Martha def needs a more traditional name with it.
