Sore-en or Sorren?

I'm not sure I like it yet, am mulling...

In my head it's Sorren (but am frequently wrong )

funnypeculiar · 22/07/2008 21:41

Sor-ren, I reckon. That's how they say it on Charlie & Lola anyway

JRocks · 22/07/2008 21:41

Well, on Charlie and Lola () they pronounce it to rhyme with Lauren

WendyWeber · 22/07/2008 21:42

Actually being Scandiwegian-ish it probably is Sore-en, come to think.

Sore-en
Lore-en
son

Pron Sorren usually. I love that in Charlie and Lola - Soren Lorenson. Makes me go around saying it under my breath cos I like the way it sounds!

seeker · 22/07/2008 21:53

If you don't know how to pronounce it, neither will anyone else. Step away from the name before someone gets hurt..........

UpSinceCrapOClock · 22/07/2008 21:56

In Denmark it's pronounced something similar to 'Ser'n' (although it's written Søren).

bohemianbint · 22/07/2008 21:57

seeker - you could be right. It was one of DH's suggestions (and he's not made too many so am trying to be positive!) It makes me think of malt loaf as well, and not sure that's the best thing...

Doesn't that ø make and o sound like ugh/er?

Tinker · 22/07/2008 21:59
UpSinceCrapOClock · 22/07/2008 22:01

Tinker - yup - the 'er' was the closest way I could think of typing the pronunciation.

funnypeculiar · 22/07/2008 22:09

I think there's a welsh name Serren (meaning star) which is nice if you just like the sounds

Tinker · 22/07/2008 22:10

Had to cut and paste your ø UpSince

JRocks · 22/07/2008 22:22

Seren is 'star' in Cornish too

lunavix · 22/07/2008 22:23

I was thinking soreen too

JRocks · 22/07/2008 22:24

I mean Steren

bohemianbint · 23/07/2008 18:53

Hmmm...we were considering Seren for a girl but that seems to have dropped off the radar for now. Ah well, back to the drawing board. >

But isn't Soren a boy's name?

bohemianbint · 24/07/2008 11:31

Branflake, yes, Soren's a boy's name. It woudl be so useful if we actually knew what we were getting - the suspense is killing me!

Present for you Tinker (to tidy away in case any future need ):

ps, Søren is definitely a boy's name!

Tinker · 27/07/2008 00:52

Duly filed. I like them

MmeLindt · 27/07/2008 01:05

In Germany it would be Soeren (sorry, Tinker, I don't have an umlaut on this keyboard, but I can send you one next week when I get home )

Pronounced Soor -en (Rhymes with moor). It is the Danish version of the name Severin and means strict/serious.

I tend to agree that if you don't know how to pronounce it then noone else will. Saying that, noone in Germany could pronounce DDs name to begin with and they have just had to learn

CoolYourJets · 27/07/2008 01:10

makes me think of this, I'm afraid.
