Is Thomas just too popular at the mo?

I posted a few days ago asking your views on Rory and Sebastian. I like both but am just not 100% iykwim. I've now got 8 weeks to go and nothing really grabs me as I do want fairly traditional and nothing too modern.

Thomas was my Grandad's name and I would have Thomas Alexander - Tom/Tommy for short.

do you know of lots of them where you live?

I have a Thomas/Tom. I don't know anyone here with a child called that.

Ohhh, I have a Thomas Alexander, so may be slightly biased here .

It's not the most unusual name, tis true ... but - ds has so far always been the only Thomas - in 2 nurseries, one preschool & his school class. In fact, I only know (vaguely) of one other Thomas locally under 5. Whereas there were 4 Callums at his nursery at one point!

We do shorten it to Thom (do i know you Fimbo ) to be pretentious different, but tbh, it's not been necessary.

Lovely, solid but with potential to shorten in a personalised way. Go for it.

Oh, and when I told my midwife what we were calling him, she started welling up, as she had a Thomas Alexander too!

One other thing, it is deffo timeless rather than one of those 'popular at the minute but will date you in 20 years type names (cf Samantha in the 70s, or Lily now, I'd say)

Thanks for your opinions. It is very popular but I do think we will probably go with it as it's actually an option DH is keen on (I just can't persuade him on Sebastian). So i think it will be Thomas Alexander.

I love the name Thomas, (Tommy and Tom for short)that was one of the names on our short list, and the only reason we didn't used it was because he look like a Thomas. I don't know of any Thomas's in my sons nursery. Go for it (I like th second name too).

I agree with your DH don't like Sebastian (sorry to any out there).
