This name thing is getting ridiculous. Can anyone suggest any nice WELSH names?

Baby due next month and we're still no further on than we were 8 months ago. Am getting very stressed that this poor child could be nameless for weeks!

My name is Scandinavian as is DS1's but our surname is Welsh. Having not got very far with agreeing on more Scandinavian names, (maybe Magnus for a boy, but I'm less sure than DH) I'm wondering if we should go for something Welsh. (DS's middle name is Welsh and we're debating moving there so thought it might be a plan.)

We are considering Arianwen for a girl. (Well, I am, DH not so much. We just can't agree this time at all!)

Any suggestions? Please?!

My nanny was Eluned, said it llean-ed
Her sisters were Myfanwy (Shortened to Vanu) and Mair.

Never appeared in the family since...

We like Tomos for a boy and are arguing terribly for a girl. If I have twin girls they will be known as twin 1 and twin 2 forever!

I ahve welsh friends named Elin and Emyr (boy and a girl).

Considered Aneurin for ds in honour of Nye Bevan. Also like Evan, Emrys and Bryn.

BohemianBint - My DD is Arianwen.

We spend a lot of the time explaining the meaning and where I got it from (The Snow Spider by Jenny Nimmo IIRC). She does get called Arian a lot too.

When she was at nursey the staff called her 'Harry' which I didn't like, but the children called her Arianwen.

Three of my gps are Welsh so I don't feel like a fraud giving her a Welsh name.

ANGHARAD

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 18/07/2008 18:08

Olwen is absolutely beautiful. I had it on my list for dd 6 yrs ago. I'm not Welsh though, so

A lot of these Welsh names make me wince though. Angharad for example. Mywanwy. Yikes. Janey Mackers.

Lovage · 18/07/2008 19:25

I don't know if it's proper Welsh, but I had a welsh aunt called Rowena, which I've always liked and english people can spell.

Delyth?
Bethan and Nia are pretty easy for english people to spell/pronounce

DoubleBluff · 18/07/2008 19:31

I have nephews
Osian and Rhydian
Fab names!

bikerunski · 19/07/2008 08:27

Carys and Elin are my favorite girls' names ever, but I have no connection with wales, so wont be using them. my welsh nephew is Emrys, which i also love.

i know a Delyth and a Nerys, who are both well under 50!

Suggestions:
Rhiannon
Bronwen
Branwen

I particularly like Rhiannon - nice meaning 'nymph, goddess' and it's getting somewhat popular in recent times: baby name Rhiannon

zebedee1 · 19/07/2008 16:16

Some gorgeous names here (stores them up for future welsh babies!). DP is welsh, we live in England and our DS is called Evan. If he was a girl he would have been Seren, Elen or Eira.

3andnomore · 19/07/2008 16:24

I really like Gwilym for a boy....

mumeroo · 19/07/2008 19:55

How about Madoc which means lucky? I'm not Welsh but was a name we toyed with at one stage

bohemianbint · 20/07/2008 19:20

Bumdiddley - ooh, I hadn't heard of the snow spider. I did a google and it says it means white snow, or fair and blessed, or something. All sounds good either way!
