Or is 'Ichabod' an acceptable name for fortchcoming son?

We want a Jewish/Hebrew name to go with surname so alternatives welcome, but not Joel/Jacob/Ethan/Caleb etc.

Ichabod just appeals! But why?

Makes me think of Dr Suess "Ichabod is itchy". It's a bit way out there! But then dd would have been Ezra if she hadn't been a girl.

totalmisfit · 09/07/2008 13:50

erm have you seen Sleepy Hollow?

minouminou · 09/07/2008 13:55

Crikey o'reilly
Dont. Do. It.
Ichabod is too far for even me.
Malachi's a good'un, though.

HonoriaGlossop · 09/07/2008 14:08

ooh, how lovely! At school he can be 'Icky' for short! How pleased he will be! How he will laugh along with his schoolchums!

Twelvelegs · 09/07/2008 14:08

I don't like it sorry.

charitygirl · 09/07/2008 14:40

LOL at HonoriaGlossop...that had crossed my mind!

Malachi is lovely, minou, I often mull it over but then others tell me I being ridiculous. Ezra also cool actually.

I know Sleepy Hollow not great precedent of course.

'Frank' is still out in front I think then - not Hebrew I know but goes great with surname.

Thanks chaps.

Ichabod means 'The glory has departed' and refers to when the Ark of the Covenant was captured by the Philistines (Samuel) -- Wikiedia.

DarthVader · 09/07/2008 17:27

Malachi is quite popular in these parts, not odd at all!

Ichabod will get a lot of teasing at school I would think though

MsDemeanor · 09/07/2008 17:29

Ezra acceptable, so is Malachi.
Ichabod? Oh no.

Comerscroft · 09/07/2008 17:32

On a lighter note, other possibly unfortunate nicknames might include:

'Ickie Dickie'
'Picky Ickie
'Body'

expatmama · 09/07/2008 17:34

How about Levi?

herewegoagain02 · 09/07/2008 17:46

Oh yeah, Matthew McConaughhey named his new baby boy Levi, I think it means joined or united. Malachi is a lovely name too.

FlirtyThirty · 09/07/2008 18:30

I think it's dreadful - sorry!

bikerunski · 09/07/2008 19:46

Think it's the type of name that sounds better to doting parents than anyone else.

Reuben, Benjamin, Adam?

I'm liking Levi too.

chandellina · 09/07/2008 19:57

some sort of pregnancy-induced madness? sorry but the nicknames are just too awful!

scanner · 09/07/2008 19:59

Saul is another good one.

SSSandy2 · 09/07/2008 20:07

Hebrew names
There's so much on this site though, I find it a bit daunting to tackle.

SoMuchToBits · 09/07/2008 20:16

Well, I'm going to suggest my usual, which is Ozias, which was used a lot in previous generations of my family. Very old testament, and unusual, but don't think too embarrassing (although lots of people will now come along and tell me otherwise!)

artichokes · 09/07/2008 20:21
